RE: Greenes
None at all. Bea and I estimate 1927-1928 based on the ages of the children. Rufus Jr. was listed as 7 years old on the 1930 census, but I don't think he looks 7 in this picture. But ages can be very deceiving! Selena died in May of 1828, so it had to be taken before then. That is probably as definite a date as we can get. :-(

RE: Greenes
Gaynell, we've had it on Watauga Co and on Bea's site. I'm going to post it on Thomas' Find A Grave memorial for you to look at. Then I will delete it if it isn't him. I don't know why the attachment didn't show. When I pull up my copy in the SENT folder, both pictures show up. Go figure. lol

RE: Greenes
Hi, Gaynell. Between Sandra Blankenship, Bea Wellborn, and a few others connected to this Greene family, it has been determined that he isn't Thomas. We still don't know who he is, however, so I will email you a copy of his picture just in case it might be someone you recognize. He's in a picture with Wes and Selena Greene and their son Rufus and several grandchildren, so we all believe he must be related either to Wes or Selena. Bea has about exhausted all possibilities on the Greene side, so we might have to start looking at the McNeils. I will send you the pic right after I send this message.

Thanks, Barbara Shirley Rogerson

Hi, Gaynell. I have a picture that I am trying to get identified. I know one of the men is Wesley Greene, but I don't know who the other one is. I think it might be Thomas, but until I find someone who recognizes him, I can't say for sure. I'm doing this for a Blackburn cousin whose mom has a Greene connection. I would like to send you the picture. Would you mind sharing an email address with me in private? You can send it to I would sure appreciate it!

RE: Greene
John Melvin and my grandfather Elihu were brothers, Wesley was their half uncle.
So you have a line through John Melvin, Wesley Sherrill and Thomas R?
Do you happen to know what the R in Thomas R stands for a middle name of some sort.
If you come through Thomas R Greene like I think you do than we have a line through the Gragg's as well. Thomas's wife, Celia and my great great great grandmother, Sarah Lucinda were sisters, I have pictures of Sarah Lucinda Gragg Greene, which married Elihu.
I have pictures of, Camilla C Greene (Sister of John Riley, half sister of Wesley and Thomas), E Lindsay (Brother of John Melvin), Elihu (Brother of John Melvin), John Riley (Father of John Melvin), Harvey R (Brother of John Melvin), Lucy Carolina (Sister of John Melvin), William Willis (Brother of John Melvin), William Conley (Brother of John Riley).
But out of all the picture's that I do have, I think you would like the John Riley Greene family picture that I have, if you have not seen it already, it has John Riley and Mabel Malinda in it as well as all the children, John Melvin is in it as a little boy, let me know if you would like that one as well.
Go ahead and send me an email at and I can send these picture's to you.
I am so happy that we have connected and that we can share information and pictures so easily.

RE: Greene
I have a few Miller/Greene connections, let me know who you are mainly looking at with Miller's and Greene's and I can see if I can help you.
I have talked with Sandra Holder Blankenship about you, she is one lovely lady. She has helped me out a lot. Her great grandfather, Judson G. Greene and my great great grandfather, Jacob Jess Green are brothers. Jake was given the name Joseph Greene at birth but moved to Idaho and Montana area and changed his name. As you may know, we both come from Elihu Greene and he is the son of John Riley Greene and Mabel Malinda Watson, which John Riley is the son of Solomon Greene and Nancy Mary Hodges. I am told that you have a line from Solomon and Mary Sherrill Greene, through Thomas R. Greene. I have a picture of Thomas R. Greene and his brother Wesley Sherrill Greene, let me know if you would like a copy of it, I have enjoyed the pictures that you have posted very much. Thank you, and I would love to chat and share more information with one another.

I have made the requests to add the children, thank you for helping me with that.
I have the Mae's name was Lola Mae Miller Golds and she was married to Hoye Patterson Golds. Hoye is buried in the John Riley Cemetery but I don't think that Mae is, she may be with no headstone, cause I have had that cemetery gone through and take pictures of headstones, and Mae's never came up, but Hoye is there. Just thought that I would let you know about that so that maybe further research can be done.
Thank you for the pictures that you have added, they have been so neat to look at and see more of the big family that we are.
