Legrande Loper
There is another Legrande, in the same family, I think. The other one was Legrande Saxon Loper.
The man that I am trying to track was named Clarence Legrande Richrod and the story was that he raised a younger brother as his son, and "adopted" him (is that even possible)...but the numbers and dates don't compute. There was 25 years between the birth of Legrande in 1895 and James born in NY in 1920.
I came across Legrande and his father Clarence by chance...trying to find any Clarence born in about the right time in NY. Then I saw that the older Althea had married a Richrod in 1918, in Pennsylvania, as you say.

But where are they in 1930 and why does Legrande say he is married when no wife is present in the census, and why does Althea say she is single?

My working theory is that Anna May Gill Richrod had a son in 1920, named him after his grandfather Clarence and used his uncle's name Legrande, as a middle name... but then Anna had children Althea and Joseph Jr.... so when would she have had time to have another?

One of those mysteries...
I have a shirt-tail relation with a Clarence Legrande Richrod born in new York, and I see that your family has both of those names - but the real mystery is that Legrande Loper was a border in the Joseph and Althea Richrod home in 1925. Althea was the name of one of Clarence and Rose's children.

I was told that my relative, James Richrod b.1920 NY, was adopted by a brother 25 years older, named Clarence Legrande Richrod, and raised as a son in Oregon.

There are just too many coincidences to go un-noticed. Can you provide any clues?

RE: Daniel B Loper
Hello Aine,

Do you have anything that gives the names of the parents for Daniel's wife Ellen?

Thanks Tracy

Daniel B Loper

My name is Tracy and I found your memorial while searching my East Coast family.

The Long Island Records Research site indicates that Daniel B Loper married Ellen L Rush (my Grand Aunt) on Oct 24, 1931; can you possibly shed some light on this?

Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you
