RE: Dr.Samuel Swayne Smithwick 1830-1905
I thought there was already a marker on Samuel's grave but not sure. Know there is one on Mahulda's grave. My Grandmother Eunice Ellen Britt was not a true Britt. ( my sister Ellen is named after her). Grandmother Eunice was killed on Gooden Lake in 1938 and Aunt Eliza gave the land for the cemetery and the Church where She is buried. She was the first person to be buried in the Gooden Lake Cemetery. Now both Mother and Daddy are buried there as well as a lot of their friends on Gooden Lake.Uncle Robert was some of the reason that Eunice was killed by her last husband.Lots of heart break in that story. Thanks for the information Betty Jo,I checked into the double cemetery and you are right. I went to the cemetery there one summer in about 1983 not sure at this time which it is but I know that they had cabins, and held a camp meeting there once a year. Also met Judge Coleman who wrote the book on our Bruce's.That is the trouble with age the memory goes so fast lol.Yes my Mother was a granddaughter to Sarah Frances Smithwick.I remember Aunt Eliza but not Uncle Robert.Quite a few of my family are buried in the Belzoni cemetery and that is where Aunt Eliza and Uncle Robert are buried.Grandmother Eunice is buried on Gooden Lake and so are my parents. My Mother passed away this last Aug just after her 96's birthday. Will be going back to Gooden Lake this summer. On one of my sites I have a picture of Samuel Swayne Smithwick posted with the message that was on the back with it. I hired a researcher in Canton Ga and she was able to locate the picture for me.Hey nice to meet you Bobbie

Betty Jo, I know that they are buried in the French Camp cemetery. I have been to the cemetery.Mahulda died while they lived in Choctaw co. Then Aunt Eliza and and her father Samuel were in Webster when he died. I'm not sure if that was due to a co split or not but both are buried in French Camp. The cemetery is where they have a campground meeting every year Bobbie

The 1880 census shows him living in Boone County, then he died in 1884. So suspect he is buried somewhere in Arkansas, rather than Georgia.
