I started looking for my family tree in 1996...Especially to get past some brick walls that my parents couldn't tell me anything about...I have found out things that my parents didn't know about their own families and told them..It has been fun "digging up the family tree'' and meeting distant relatives along the way that I otherwise would never have known....
The book --History of the Irish Woods Gills Hi, I have been busy trying to find someone close to me that might have a copy of our family book, but have come up empty handed. I'm wondering if you were able to check into how much it would cost to have this book copied and are still willing to perhaps have this done for me? I hope this is not too much to ask of someone and have been doing my best to track one down from someone that lives within driving distance, but haven't had any luck. I don't have a problem paying for the book to be copied, but the few people I have contacted who also has this book is not willing to have it copied. Unfortunately I cant get any photos or family group sheets to help me out in my research. Also I'm having a hard time finding your family tree on ancestry, which you did invite me to take a look at. I found several Gipson family trees, but not yours. Perhaps it's been so long I am misspelling the surname? Take care and am looking forward to hearing back from you.
Robert Leslie Gill Thank you for suggestion I look at your family tree. I will do that, but it will have to wait until after the 4th of July because my mate hates me being on here and promised I'd take a brake for a few days. Some people just don't share that same interest I guess. LOL! I did notice that as for my family group sheet, William Pierson Gill, they have my Grandfathers middle name wrong. It is actually Zedakiah and the source was given from a rather close family member of his. From what I have heard there are a lot of mistakes here and there through out the book. There are two John Z Gill's; John Brown Gill's son and William Pierson Gill's son, my grandfather. What I am mostly interested in is knowing what information Robert had for the Gill's that were born in Ireland. Thank you for being so wiling to help me out. It is greatly appreciated. :)
Robert Leslie Gill Good morning. I was talking to my mother yesterday regarding the book and I told her that I wasn't able to come up with phone numbers, but did find his wifes address on the Internet, so I will write to her and see what happens. If that doesn't work out I am wondering if you might be willing to have the book photo copied at my own expense? I certainly would be willing to do that. It would not be as good as having the actual book, but at least I would be able to read it's contents and see what pictures the book included. My mother believes there was a picture of my Grandfather sitting on his mothers lap when he was just a baby. She claims that sometime in the 1980's dad did receive a book about the Gill family from a distant relative he never knew of but showed no interest in it. Dad had just survived a major heart attack shortly before receiving the book and wasn't interested in buying the book, so he sent it back. I guess it made him feel a bit creepy because of the timing. I have no idea how many pages are included in the book, but was wondering if you would be willing to have it photo copied or have a print shop photo copy it's pages? I hope you don't mind me asking you if you would be willing to do this for me or not. Other than the two options I mentioned, I just don't see any other way to possibly get a copy of this book for myself and my children. Please let me know what you think. Take care and I'm looking forward to hearing back from you.
RE: Robert Leslie Gill I was sad to hear the news of his recent death. Did you ever meet or know him? Also wondering what state you live in? You may have told me , but simply forgot. Is it Illinois? I had been thinking of getting a hold of Robert to ask about perhaps getting a copy of his book and introduce myself, but now it's too late for that. ;( I understand that he was survived by his wife and a few children. I suppose I will have to see if I can find a phone number for any of them via Internet and try calling one of them. Do you have any other suggestions or know someone in our family that might be able to help me? The Gill family linage I am the closest --- were the ones that made their homes in Illinois. I believe it was Samuel Henry that migrated to Arkansas and probably a few others also. My Grandfather John Zedakia was born in Illinois and loved it in Clay City. Take care and I hope you might be able to find someone that can help me get a book.
Robert Leslie Gill Hello, I was wondering if you could tell me where I might find a copy of his book, "The history of the Irish Wood Gill" book? I have heard so much about it but can not find anything about it on the internet or know where to go to buy it. I am a relative of this family too and would love to read it. I was sad to hear of Robert Leslie Gill's passing. May I ask how you also are related to this family? My Grandfather was John Zedakiah Gill and his Great Grandfather was Abraham Corson Gill.
