Mark Weitzel
RE: Jacob Weitzel ancestry
Hi William, I think I can be of some help. Emanuel was the son of Jacob and Mary "Polly" (Landis) Weitzel. Emanuel was born abt 1844. He married, Rachael Maylor at the Reformed Church Parsonage in Cumberland County, PA (It was probably in Carlisle) on Dec. 29 1864 by the Rev. Samuel Philips. Emanuel served in the Civil War, 149th Pennsylvania Vol. Inf. (The famous "Bucktail" Regt.) He was in the battles of Chancellorsville, VA., Gettysburg, PA., Culpepper Courthouse, VA., The Wilderness, VA., Mine Run, VA., Petersburg, VA and Cold Harbor, VA. He enlisted Sept. 12, 1863 at age 17 and was discharged June 7, 1865. His name is misspelled in some records as "Wetzel". Do you have a date of birth for George? I may be able to help some more. Can't begin to tell you how pleased I am to finally find another direct link to "Our" Weitzel line. Thanks, Mark

RE: Weitzel Genalogy
I did not create the memorial for Jacob Weitzel, Find A Grave Memorial# 48706575. I did create one for his daughter Ida Weitzel, Find A Grave Memorial# 87804625.

The information was from a transcription made about 1933 from The Genealogical Society of Pennsylvania, Gerberich Collection. I entered every name on the database for the Mennonite Graveyard at Balfour in the hope that others could find their ancestors. The database is on Ancestry.com and searchable by name.

I have no particular knowledge of the Weitzel family. If you see any memorials that I have created that you would like to manage please use the edit link on the memorial and I will transfer it to you.

Good luck in your family history pursuit.
