W Calleck Update
Neil,

I was not able to contact the mining company, but did speak with a member of the Owyhee County Pioneer Cemetery Board. This is a group that documents the old cemeteries and has a lot of records about who is buried in them.

First, he advised the my original directions were not correct and he provided better directions to old Delamar town site and cemetery. We were close, but did not know it when we were out today.

However, his records from Delamar Cemetery do not show W.H. Calleck buried there. He has information from a historical book that tells about W.H. Calleck's death in September, 1898. This matches well with the information from the "Owyhee Avalanche" that is on the memorial.

We will make another attempt to get to the cemetery. However, it may not be until September.

RE: Re: Delamar Cemetary, Idaho
My wife and I attempted to drive to Delamar today, 8/13/2012. Following the directions we received, we found the road was blocked by a fence and security gate for the "Kinross Delamar Mining Company". This company is active in the area, but I did not realize that access to the old town site and cemetery was not available.

I will see if I can contact the mining company to verify if the cemetery is truly within their fenced area and, if it is, is it possible to get permission to visit the cemetery.

RE: Re: Delamar Cemetary, Idaho
I am about to leave on an extended business trip, outside the country, and not return until early August. I will see if I can make the trip to Delamar once I return.

Correction
I added the three great grandsons to his Biography, But you need to delete what you added and re-add how you want it as I cant change those flowers left by others. I don't know what else to do! Have a good day and happy holidays to you!
