"To the living we owe respect. To the dead we owe only the truth." --Voltaire
Sometimes it takes years to uncover the facts but it is so rewarding to finally discover them. I have been doing genealogy for 25 yrs and am still learning about the secrets.

RE: Elizabeth Cooper vs Caudle
A friend of mine verified your point that Elizabeth's maiden was in fact Caudle and not Cooper as I had understood. Thanks for contacting me abt this & I'll make changes in my data.

RE: Elizabeth Cooper vs Caudle
I still think Cooper is correct. Elizabeth's parents were Martin Cooper & Mary Elizabeth "Betsy" Caudle, married in Surry County, NC on 23 Dec 1910, Book A, page 1231.

Elizabeth's children with Silas were:

- Mary Ann Whitaker (wife of Christian Pfaff Fulk) & she's buried at Fairview Methodist Church
- Nancy Whitaker (wife of Martin Luther Ring Sr) & she's buried at Fairview Methodist Church
- Martin F. Whitaker (died in Civil War)
- Elizabeth Jane Whitaker (married Frederick Reed) & she's buried at Poplar Springs
- Keziah Whitaker (married James Madison Mounce (Mounts), buried somewhere in Yadkin County

RE: Elizabeth Cooper vs Caudle
If you are descended, which line? I'm a descendant too as I mentioned in my earlier reply.

Elizabeth Cooper vs Caudle

I am researching Silas Whitaker and think this memorial is in error. Silas Whitaker married Elizabeth Caudle 16 Apr 1840 Surry NC. The 1850 census confirms her birth year of 1818. The Kizzy Cooper in the 1880 census was born in 1825 seven years after Elizabeth Caudle Whitaker. Silas remarried in 1853 following Elizabeth's death about 1852 and her children including Elizabeth remained with him and his new wife until Elizabeth married Frederick Reid in 1868. The 1880 census of Surry has Frederick and Elizabeth Reid There is no record of Isaac and Elizabeth Caudle Whitaker having a daughter Kizzy.
-------------------------

Well, Silas is my 2nd great-grandfather and I've always had a belief that Elizabeth Cooper (Caudle) was not his 2nd wife so you may be right but will check my data sources again. My direct line is Silas Whitaker who married Julila Shore on 08 Jan 1853 and their son Bird Nathaniel Whitaker was my great-grandfather.

I corrected her dob. On her death certificate, the date looked like 1823. Thanks for catching it.

The request to deleter you sent to my personal email regarding the duplicate of the above mentioned memorial needs to come from the actual person that posted the original memorial along with a little more detail as to why there memorial should remain and how they are related. Because I know the original poster I have deleted it but next time let the person that originally put it up there worry about the duplicates.
