I do not understand what you are trying to say in either of your corrections. All information
regarding this memorial came from Veteran's Affairs
- Jim Hahn or another contributor of whom I did not keep their email.
|Brother Xavier Werneth||RE: Teresa & Sophia Werneth|
You might get a copy of the marriage certificate in Mobile for Martin Werneth and Sophia to find out her maiden name--Rhodes or Roth(e). I think they were married in 1850.
Your mention of the tombstones in Magnolia Cemetery shifting, and persons buried in the same plot reminded me of my visit to the Werneth ancestral village in Forchheim,Germany. There, by tradition, family members are buried in the same grave and headstones are removed and replaced by the one marking the most recent death. I was really at a loss to find the graves of our Werneth ancestors there until one of our third cousins in Forchheim explained the custom to me. Another relative had in his garage,the headstone for Aloys Werneth,the father of Martin and Matthew Werneth, our immigrant ancestors. Today there are still about 100 families in Forchheim, but the cemetery there has remained the same size for hundreds of years!
