Garland and Mills Cemetary information...
Hello Jim,

I received your email from this weekend and wanted to reply back. There are TWO cemetaries at the intersection of Commerce street and Mills road in Garland. These streets are the actual frontage roads for both cemeteries entrances. I am attaching and image that I have notated the specifics on that is actually the image from the Find-a-Grave Garland-Mills Cemetery page at this link - The problem is that originally I was working along with several people to complete the grave listing inventory and post in Find-a-Grave when someone from the Mills Cemetery side submitted that they were BOTH one in the same cemetery. This is not correct, but both were merged into one and now the it appears to be confusing.

On a personal note. The Garland Cemetery side is actually considerably larger than the Mills Cemetery side and was founded in 1924 by the then Mayor of Garland, C.S. Nelson. The Nelson family section is just behind the image you noted in your email and is entered from the westernmost Commerce street entrance. (I have noted the entrance on the attached image) My family is the Nelsons and we have a long history here as our Grandfather (C.S. Nelson) was mayor then and secured a large portion of the westernmost side of Garland Cemetary for family plots. He was family friends with the Williams of Williams Funeral Home and the Nelson/Kearby side of the family has been buried here actively since 1924. The only thing stopping me from trying to have the cemeteries seperated in Find-a-Grave and made into two seperate files is that the grave listings are combined and I have not inventoried what is actually in Mills, just the Garland side.

I have been to the Garland-Mills Cemetery board meeting but it has been a while, are you active? Would love to follow up and work with someone to correct.

I have sent you an email with further documentation and picture links on my family's information with Garland, Rowlett and Rockwall.

I am always open to compare what history we have of the area and discuss. There is a lot that I have yet to complete scanning and making available, however, I would like to see the Garland Historical Society reactivated and up again.

Hope this helps! Look forward to our follow up.

RE: Shropshires
Hi Jim, I just added pictures to Harry and Ruth Shropshire's memorials; section F, plot 981. They are buried in the same plot at the Ft. Bliss National Cemetery, and therefore share the same headstone. With this unusual name, I'm sure they're all related somehow to your other Shropshires. LC

Hi Jim, I live here in el Paso and also belong to I haven't found out anything that you didn't already know about John Collins. But I did find that there are two Shropshires buried out at the Ft. Bliss cemetery; Harry and Ruth. Please do not put in the request. I put their names down and will get the photos of the headstones when I go out there next time. No problem. I don't do this for the numbers and really enjoy helping others find their genealogy information. I don't usually go out to the concordia cemetery, but if I do pass there I'll stop and give it a try to find John Collins' site. LC
