Bio and Links
Bio Photo Over 60 is a good age since I am quite thankful for reaching this point in life. Delving into genealogy goes back to the 1980s when my wife and I would visit the Huntsville, AL library and look at census records. Proliferation of computer use allowed my research to gain momentum and since about 2000 my data multiplied over and over.

Early retirement in 2004 allowed more time to spend with research. Volunteering with the Alabama Department of Archives and History allows the gleaning of information as to how to research. Learning is continuous. Reading is a passion and concentrating that reading on historical subjects allows understanding that genealogies develop not in a vacuum but with the influence of all historical events.

RE: Roy Washington Ballard
If you are requesting permission to use the photo on Roy's memorial, you will need to contact the photographer. Click on the link beneath the picture. I believe Jim Nelson was the photographer.

Mr. Cotton,
I'm not sure what you meant in the message you left for me. Which Cotton family? The link you provided didn't lead to anything useful. Please let me know if I can be of any assistance. My email address is

RE: Annis A. Cotton

You asked if I knew who Annis' parents were but unfortunately I do not know. However, I am hoping to return to Jackson county in the next few weeks. If so, I'll be happy to look at Annis' tombstone location and see who he was buried next to (maybe that will help).
