Index: 1) NAME 2) PHOTOGRAPHY 3) PHOTO REQUEST(S) 4) TRANSFER(S)
1) NAME......What should it consists of:
Female: First name, Middle names, Mother's maiden name, her nickname, her maiden or last name and/or not her husband's last name.
Male: First name, Middle names, Mother's maiden name, his nickname and his last name.
2) PHOTOGRAPHY:
You don't have to be a professional photographer to take excellent photographs of a grave marker. Just as long as it is much better than a bad photograph that is still on the memorial.
It doesn't matter who takes the photograph or what type of equipment used. The end result justifies the means for taking the photograph. Just as long as it is the best photograph of that grave marker.
Some people take a flash with their photograph and there is a ghost on the polished surface of the grave marker and that photograph should be retaken. Some others take a photograph with harsh shadows on the grave marker and that photograph should be retaken.
The best time to take a photograph is in bright light with no shadows. The photograph should be taken almost directly overhead of the grave marker but not at an angle making it hard to read. If I have a photograph of the grave marker and you post a better photograph I will delete my photograph because a better photograph is there. Others may say "My photograph was there first and it should stay." I have seen other photographs.......a bad photo is much better than the one that still is present on the memorial and should be deleted for the much better photograph. But since it is not mine it can not be deleted.
3) PHOTO REQUEST:
Placing a photo request should take some thought before making a request. How far from home to the cemetery will the photographer have to travel. Get a map and find out where Gerlach, Nevada is and where the grave of the person you want the photo of the marker in that cemetery is located. My pickup gets 14 miles per gallon of gas and the price of gas runs from $3.30 to $4.20 per gallon. Total miles from home to cemetery back to home divided by 14, multiply by $3.50 (as of Dec2012) price per gallon. To Alturas gas costs $72.50. That is why I make one or two trips per year and try to photograph everything there during the three shoots. Morning when the sun is coming from the East, Noon when the sun is almost overhead, and afternoon when the sun is coming from the West.
DON'T GOOF UP HERE = am NOT asking for money, I will volunteer my time but not my pension check. It is not like walking across the street for a pack of smokes. 3 1/2 hour drive to, 6 to 10 hours of shooting, and 3 1/2 hour drive back home makes it a LONG day.
Gerlach, Nevada is a great place to retire and I get in plenty of hiking throughout the mountains North and North-East of the town. It is dry, not much rain, little snow, some wind, and nice mountains to hike in.
4) TRANSFER:
Your relationship to the person in the grave with access to your family tree to prove the relationship. Then it shouldn't be a problem.
Have a nice day:

 | RE: Harry Carey, Jr Bill,
Your are right and that is what I thought also. However, I guess that when it comes to the famous people there are different rules. I found this out when Whitney Houston passed away. I had a question about it and asked Jim Tipton. That is when I found out that they pick the one with the best written bio. Sometimes, I think they don't even follow their own rules. Sometimes, the first one who lists the memorial gets the credit but the best bio is used. It's crazy, confusing and frustrating.

 | RE: Harry Carey, Jr Hi Bill,
Although all three existing bios have mostly the same info, Find A Grave is looking for bios that are in a single paragraph format. The first bio created is in an obituary style, which Find A Grave does not usually accept. The third bio is basically what they look for, but it pigeonholes Carey as only a western actor, when he was in other types of films such as 'Mask' and a couple of sci-fi TV series. My bio links him to the director he worked mostly with as well as his parents. It also mentions his service to our country, which the others don't. I have 75 famous bios to my credit and I sure hope this becomes number 76.
Regards,

 | RE: Harry Carey, Jr Hi Bill,
The first bio that was created for Harry is not within the Find A Grave guidelines as an acceptable bio for 'famous' inclusion. Eventually the administrators at Find A Grave will determine which one of the three will be accepted and the others will be deleted. I'll wait and see what they decide.
Thanks and have a great New Year..

 | RE: Harry Carey, Jr Hi Bill,
Thanks for you note. I'm aware of the other memorial for Harry. At this point there are 4 memorials for him all hoping that theirs will be the one selected as "the one" who gets credited for writing the famous bio. Jim Tipton explained to me that when it comes to the famous memorials, it's not who made the meorial first who gets selected. It's the one with the best written bio. So, I'm going to keep my memorial up and in the running and may the best one get selected. :)
