Jan Bos is a police officer in his hometown Nijmegen in Holland. He is an amateur World War Two historian to the 82nd Airborne Division and Troop Carriers. The 82nd liberated Nijmegen during the so-called operation Market Garden, starting 17 September 1944. The paratroopers and glidermen from the 82nd Airborne Division could not do their job without the support of the crewmembers of the Troop Carrier transport planes, dropping the paratroopers and towing the CG-4A Waco gliders.
Am a member of the Historical Section of the National Liberation Museum in Groesbeek, Holland. Working on temporary American cemeteries in North Africa and Europe. Am also a member of the Groesbeek Airborne Friends.
Have adopted several graves at Margraten (Holland) and Henri Chapelle (Belgium) Cemeteries.
I have witten a book about the 376th Parachute Field Artillery Battalion, 82nd Airborne Division.
Currently doing research about the invasion of Sicily. D-Day for operation Husky was 10 July 1943. Intend to write a book on the temporary American cemetery GELA on Sicily, where over 1,200 Americans were buried in the 1943-1944 period. I hope to finish the book on 10 July 2013, 70th anniversary of operation Husky.
I am looking for the men's and women's pictures killed in Sicily during World War Two, all kind of data/reports and pictures of the individual graves of the Gela cemetery. Also pictures of their graves in the United States or in the Sicily Rome and Florence cemeteries in Europe. | |

 | Wilbur H. Wood You sent me a message awhile ago about using a photo I had taken of his grave stone here in Musselshell County, Montana. At the time I told you please feel free to use it but it was a somewhat blurry photo. I am just checking back with you to see if its too late for me to visit the cemetery and snap a better photo for you to use? Please let me know and I will go take another couple of photos. | | | Shirley Butler
 | Pvt. John Strickland Jan, I researched Pvt. Strickland's family today. I had actually taken a pic of his Mother's grave also without realizing it was his Mother. John's Father must have died because his mothers name was Maudie O. Strickland. If you need anymore information, please let me know. | | | Shirley Butler
 | RE: Pvt John G. Strickland Jan,of course, you have my permission. How very interesting, and I will see if the girl who just went through and posted the names will transfer the memorial to me so I can add the bio. My grandparents are buried right in front of him. I was actually just going around making pictures, and had to uncover his marker that had a lot of leaves and debris on top of it. I will look closer the next time I go there, because I was wondering why he was buried in that plot with people that didn't have the same last name. I will do some further research. What is your e-mail address? Good luck on your book, and let me know when it is published so I may can get a copy. I would love to have an autographed copy. My grandmother that is buried there was a writer and poet, and won the Best Poet Award State of Alabama in 1974. Her name was Bess Stout Lambert. Thanks for responding, and I was thrilled when I found his marker. Have a great day. Shirley Butler, Hueytown, Alabama. | | | Shirley Butler
