RE: JBH Norris at Maple St in Hardwick
Joan,
As you probably know the position of the sun is very important when taking good pictures of the stones. The best time is when the sun is high so that it is shining across the face rather then directly at it.

A couple of years ago I met a woman taking photos at the old Cabot Center cemetery. She was writing a book on gravestone carvers and needed very good photos of the carvings. She would take the photos when the sun was high but behind the stone so that the face was in shadow. She had a chair and a full length mirror like you would mount on the back of a door. She would position the mirror propped against the chair to reflect sunlight across the face of the stone at a shallow angle. This made a huge difference by bringing out the relief in the surface and making the writing much easier to read. I now keep a mirror and chair with me and have used this technique a lot.

Joan,

Unfortunately, I am afraid I can't help you. I checked my files and my pictures from 2013 have been deleted. I will not be back in Vermont until the end of June. If it's not too late then, I would be glad to take a second high resolution photo and send it too you.
As far as information on Rev. Norris, I did not do any research, just took the photo. If you haven't already, you might ask David Edsel, who created the memorial.

you posted a pic of samuel lord and also a row of gravestones of children of samuel lord; memorial 83757117. you said children of J & S Lord. I am curious who is the "J" of that. I am trying to find the father and mother of Abner Keyser Lord. They were supposedly Samuel & Elizabeth. Can you help me with any info? Abner is my multi great grandfather.
sincerely

Thank you so much! I have a number of ancestors in this cemetery but didn't have the stones for these. There may be more later! Thanks for being close enough to take pics for me ... I'm way too far away!

Joan,
Thank you so much for taking the time to provide the photos of this grave and for the information you provided. Would it be alright to use the photos on my family tree on ancestry.com? Thanks again.
