Forest Hill Cemetery Find-A-Grave Request

I am traveling to Birmingham on Saturday, June 25 for the purpose of taking photos at Forest Hill Cemetery. If you wish me to take the photo of your family member, please call the office today at 205-592-7279 and locate the SEC and PLOT number of the gravesite and I will do my best to locate and take the photo for you. You can reply to this email with the SEC/PLOT number and NAME and I will add them to my list.

Allen Herrod

If you see this message after I leave tomorrow, you may text me on my cell.

Ellen McCarthy and Daniel McCarthy
Dear Anonymous,

I just returned from St. Mary's Cemetery having tried to fulfill your request for Ellen and Daniel. I see on their pages that the inscription is quoted from each headstone,

I could not find either headstone, so I am confused. I assume that if the inscription is quoted, then someone previously had found the tombstone.

In Section C, where you said Ellen was buried, I found a large granite marker for Daniel McCarthy (but with a different death date than the one that you had requested). That marker also had the name of his sister, Ellen H???, and his children, Helena M and James J.

In Section L, where you said Daniel was buried, I found a small granite marker simply engraved with "McCarthy".

So, I don't know what to think. I did take photos, so please let me know if you want me to post them or send them to you.

Take care,
Scott McKinzie

I was actually able to take the pictures that you requested for Tony, unfortunately my camera was set at too high of a resolution and therefore I cannot upload it. I will go back next weekend to retake pictures of your relative.

Elizabeth Hodges
Hello Anonymous, Just Letting you know. Elizabeth Hodges is my 5x Great Grandmother. She is buried in the Hodges Cemetery but she just has a field stone for a marker. There are several in the cemetery and no one knows which one is hers. Have a good Thanksgiving.

RE: Elizabeth Butler
I sent an email to the records office a the cemetery here is my question and their response:

Wanted to confirm the middle name of Elizabeth Penelope Butler (1845-1935) interred in the Sanctuary of Peace, Dahlia Terrace, Great Mausoleum, Lot 0, Space 4006. Her family believes her middle name is Permelia not Penelope. Thanks. Our records indicate “Penolope” as the middle name.

Hope this helps your research.

RE: Elizabeth Butler
The cemetery records have Penelope as the middle name. To be honest, I never doubted or confirmed her middle name. I will call the records office this week and double check.
