Here's a poem that touches my heart. It is the reason we are in this service; for both the living and those who have gone on before us.

THE RECORDING OF A CEMETERY
BY THELMA GREENE REAGAN
Today we walked where others walked on a lonely, windswept hill; today we talked where others cried for loved ones whose lives are stilled. Today our hearts were touched by graves of tiny babies; snatched from the arms of loving kin, in the heartbreak of the ages. Today we saw where the grandparents lay in the last sleep of their time; lying under the trees and clouds - their beds kissed by the sun and wind. Today we wondered about an unmarked spot; who lies beneath this hollowed ground? Was it a babe, child, young or old? No indication could be found. Today we saw where Mom and Dad lay. We had been here once before on a day we'd all like to forget, but will remember forever more. Today we recorded for kith and kin the graves of ancestors past; to be preserved for generations hence, a record we hope will last. Cherish it, my friend; preserve it, my friend, for stones sometimes crumble to dust and generations of folks yet to come will be grateful for your trust.
"Call not back the dear departed anchored safe where storms are o'er on the border land we left them soon to meet and part no more."

Inscription on a gravestone

"Show me the manner in which a nation cares for its dead, and I will measure with mathmatical exactness the tender mercies of its people, their respect for the laws of the land and their loyalty to high ideals."

Another update re Amod:
I took another look today, and the bronzer has placed a marker, however it only has Ezzard's name on it, and not Amod's. Maybe his name will be added in the future. I have another nice area photo I can add, which is of the entrance to the Alta Plot, with an archway. I also have a photo of the marker with Ezzard's name, and I have placed these photos on Ezzard's memorial.

I sure wish I could report something more positive. I'll check back in another 60 days or so, and if I find anything different, I'll let you know.

Take care,
Bonnie

Follow-up re Amod Carroll
Hi Marsha. I was at the cemetery yesterday and asked about a permanent marker for Amod's grave, and was told that there wasn't one on order. I don't understand this, as it looks in the photo as if this is a permanent marker that just needs to have nameplates bolted onto it. For whatever the reason, it seems that the family has not ordered one. I was sure hoping to come back to Mod's gravesite and find a new marker there, but I guess that is not going to happen.

Just thought I'd let you know that I tried again.

Best regards,
Bonnie

RE: Presley, Janis Leigh
I wish I had good news for you. I checked the Remembrance section and it appears that Janis has no headstone. She is laid to rest in a beautiful and peaceful part of Forest Lawn.
I hope I have been of some help to you.

Amod Carroll
Hi again, Marsha! Another fulfilled photo request for you but I'm sorry to report that this one does not have a marker, yet. It has been lifted off and taken to the bronzer to have his name added to the marker. He is buried with Ezzard Carroll.

I have included a photo of the area and as you can see, someone has recently left flowers. The other photo I have added is that of the temporary marker from the mortuary. I will replace this with a photo of the actual marker when it gets placed. Unfortunatley, I get too many like this to follow up on, of if you could please contact the cemetery to find out, and then let me now, I will go back and get a photo of the actual marker.

Take Care,
Bonnie

Walter Achen (again)
Sorry for taking up more space. There is another memorial with similar dates in Minnesota:

I wonder where he is actually buried!

Walter Achen picture
Hi Marsha-

I went to take a picture of the headstone for Walter Achen. I didn't find it. I did find stones for Sarah Achen and Charles G. Achen (I took pictures and created memorials for them, but the pictures are lousy - I'll go back and retake them at a different time of day). If you are related to this family, do you know if they are his parents? There are no stones next to them and quite a bit of space, so I'm wondering if he is their son and was buried next to them, but no stone was put up.

If you do happen to know where Walter is buried, I am happy to go back and take a picture of his stone if there is one in a different location. I didn't "unclaim" the picture yet - just in case you happen to know anything about his family or his location.

Dorie

P.S. I didn't find him in the index of the Lakeside Cemetery transcription either. I have the index from the 1980's version. I believe there is a more recent version I can check next week, but I'm not sure he would be in there if he wasn't in the earlier one.
