Hi, Margaret, I cleaned up and rephotographed the monument so you can see it very well now. The first time I went the rising Eastern sun was so bright behind it that it cast the face of the monument in shadow. In cloud and mist it photographs better! Lyn
|Brian McDaniel||Mama D (and Cricket)|
Margaret & James,
Val & Christine Horn were my Great Uncle and Aunt. Val's older sister, Gertrude Mae (sp?) Horn McDaniel was my grandmother. My father was named after Val Horn who was his uncle (Jack Valton McDaniel). Val and Christine never had children, but were 'adopted grandparents'to all of their extended family (neices, nephews, younger cousins, etc). In lieu of children, they raised award-winning AKC Registered Cocker Spaniels . . .and had many of them over the years . . . Mama D and Cricket were probably two of their very special ones, and I believe Mama D (perhaps her ashes?) are buried there on Val & Christine's plot). Don't know about Cricket.
Margaret, don't know your exact relation (you mentioned on one of the F.A.G. sites that you were a distant relative), but I have 'some' additional info re: the Horn family, some photos and also other Horn Cousins, that I would like to connect you to, that might help 'fill in' some blanks . . .You can reach me via email at BamBamMcDaniel@gmail.com. FYI, I live in Rowlett, Tx (Dallas suburb).

Many thanks for relaying that story to me, the newspaper article is a real warm touch about the people involved, I really enjoyed your follow-up.

I have the fotos that U requested and will post them in a few days, as right now I have an out-of-town trip to take care of.
Also, I am hoping that U are a family member so that maybe something can be cleared up so I know how to post the info.
Follow me, here goes:
In the Horn plot I added Billie Horn Stolkin (1916-1990) which, given the dates, appears to be their married daughter. That's easy to figure out, seems logical.
Here's the unknown:
At the foot of the common stone for Valton & Christine, which reads left to right, are the follow footstones.
Underneeth Valton, "Val"
Underneeth Christine "Mama D, our little pet"
-thats kinds strange, any ideas on it- ??
and off to the right of Christine from the above mentioned footstone is one that sez "Cricket".
I have the ability to locate buried human remains and what I found there was of Female in gender about a foot in length.
I have never witched for animals before, just wondering if "Cricket" might have been a pet. !?
Or that stone and "mama D" got transposed. !?
FYI, there is a "Cricket Horn" listed on the master sheet for the cemetery in section 17.
Any comments would be of assistance.
