 | Findagrave Memorial #100914404 - Ethel T. Edwards re: Ethel T. Edwards Findagrave Memorial #100914404 Her name is Ethel Mae Thompson Edwards
Thank you for the work you've done on my Edwards family. Following are some updates you may wish to make.
BIRTH PLACE: Jasper Co, GA DEATH PLACE: Griffin, Spalding Co, GA SPOUSE: Clem Doyle Edwards (1892-1965) Findagrave Memorial #100914376 Birth place: Butts Co, GA Death place: Butts Co, GA In the 1930 Census noted on his memorial, the "H of H" is actually Mrs. C.D. Edwards. Clem is not recorded with the family in 1930. Perhaps 1940 Census Butts Co, GA would be a better choice: Clemmie Edwards 48, Ethel Edwards 48, Marlin Edwards 19, Hilda Edwards 16, Mattie Lee Thompson 74.
CHILDREN: Please add links to the children. These are listed on her husband's memorial but not on hers.
Clem Doyle Edwards, Jr. (1911-1985) Findagrave Memorial #100914500
Nellie Edwards Cawthon (1913-1960) Findagrave Memorial #100914443 Her name is Nellie Mae Edwards Cawthon
W. Marlin Edwards (1920-1945) Findagrave Memorial #100914422 His name is Walter Marlin Edwards
PARENTS: If possible, please create memorials and add links to Ethel Edwards.
FATHER: William David "Billy" Thompson Birth: 23 Nov 1848 in Jasper Co, GA Death: about 1897 in Jasper Co, GA Buried: Providence Cemetery in Shady Dale, Jasper Co, GA [Photo of headstone may give death date. William is probably buried near his parents John Franklin Thompson, Sr. (1919-1897) Findagrave Mem #88996690 and Mary Ann McKee Thompson (1823-1880) Findagrave Mem #53638685 and his grandparents Joseph Matthew Thompson, Sr. (#74241392) and Rosamond Mercer Thompson (#88997118).] William David is named as a child on his parents' Findagrave Memorial site and on 1860 Jasper Co, GA census = William D. Thompson age 11.
MOTHER: Maria Lee "Mattie" Edwards Thompson Birth: January 1866 in Jasper Co, GA Death: about 1945 in Butts Co, GA Buried: Jackson City Cemetery in Jackson, Butts Co, GA Buried in lot of Robert Laney Grant and Annie Lou Thompson Grant. Photo of headstone may give death date for Mattie. I can't find Findagrave memorials for Robert and Annie Lou (daughter of Maria "Mattie"). 1940 Butts Co, GA census lists Mattie Lee Thompson 74 widowed living in HH of Clemmie and Ethel Edwards.
Your help will be very much appreciated. If more info is needed, please let me know.

 | Lucy Jane Gray Edwards, 96085618 Will you please edit your memorial of: Lucy Jane Gray Edwards, 1907-1986. You have her mother listed as Caroline E. Gunn Pulliam (1854-1881) when actually that was her grandmother. Her mother was Lucy Carrie Pulliam Gray 1881-1934. All of these Lucies and Carries make this confusing but Caroline "Carrie" Gunn Pulliam died in 1881, a few days after giving birth to Lucy Carrie Pulliam (Gray), 1881.

 | RE: Lula Browning photo request Thanks for your efforts, Joe. The plot may be in an out-of-the way location, but I'm beginning to thank the grave just isn't marked. Or perhaps the monument was destroyed somehow and not replaced. | | | Mack Browning
 | Lula Browning photo request Hi,
Since you have accepted a photo request for the grave of Lula Browning Thompson, I wanted to give you some additional information that might help you locate it.
I am a native of Jackson and have visited the Jackson cemetery many times, including in the past several months when I attempted to find this grave site, to no avail.
I know she is buried there because of her death certificate and obituary. The obit says she was buried in the "family lot.'' It's not clear which family, but I'm thinking it's the Thompson side, not the Browning side. My father, grandfather and great-grandfather Browning are all buried in the cemetery, in the same lot, and Lula isn't there. So, I'm thinking she's buried with the Thompsons. I only recently learned that her husband's father, Hamlin Thompson, is also buried there.
Anyway, I have a suggestion of where to start, unless you just want to walk the cemetery cold, and I'm not suggesting you do that.
There is a large Thompson lot on the main entrance street to the cemetery. Enter on the west end in front of that car wash (not the east end, which I believe is really supposed to be an exit, though I see cars enter that way). Drive down to maybe the third section -- not sure exactly how far. Just look to your left -- there is a large Thompson head stone right on the left of the road at a junction of a side street. There is another Lula Thompson readily visible once you get out of your vehicle and enter the lot. But this is not my Lula -- this one has a different maiden name and the birth and death dates are not close.
However, my Lula may be in this lot or an adjacent lot. Before when I searched, I did not know that Lula's father-in-law was Hamlin Thompson. My wife seems to remember an obelisk in an adjacent lot with Hamlin Thompson on it. If so, my Lula Browning Thompson, may also be named on the obelisk or adjacent..
There are other Thompsons in the old section of the cemetery but none were Lula.
I am a little mystified why I haven't been able to find that site. Could be she and her husband were buried in an unmarked grave, but that seems unlikely because they were a couple of some means. They lived on Third Street for years, and Lula's obit mentions that she was involved in community affairs. Of course, it could have been their wish that no marker be placed. I just don't know.
But I hope the clues I have given you might lead to her grave. I'm thinking I may just not have looked at all four sides of that obelisk and she might be there.
Hope this helps -- and thank you. | | | patsy bollen
