Bio and Links
Bio Photo I was infected with the genealogy bug by my late aunt who began a life long genealogy quest in the 1930s. She started by transcribing the inscriptions in the Cochrane Bible, with its earliest in 1774 for the wedding of David Cochran and Lucy Winston in Colonial Virginia. My aunt, Miriam Margaret (Cochrane) Hunter (1903-1989), published 2 genealogy books, "The Cochrane Family" in 1943, and "The Four John Symes of Virginia" in 1986.

Since my retirement I have had the time to organize her files and expand on her work, going back 8 generations to Glasgow, Scotland in the 1600s.

When I began to research my wife's ancestors, we had knowledge of only her parents and grandparents. So far I have identified 170 of her ancestors, some going back 12 generations to Scotland, England and Germany in the 1600s.

I am happy to share any and all information I have in the same spirit that many others have helped me.

My Genealogy Families:
Cochran/Cochrane, Russell, Meriwether, Syme, Winston, Geddes, Overton, Bobby, Dabney, St. John, Eberhardt, Stewart, Jackson, McCrackin, Hamilton, etc.

My Wife's Genealogy Families:
Landolt, Claxton, Rae, Eyre, Doughty, Dougherty, Herrman, Baghurst, Hendrickson, Moore, Creekmoore, Hudson, Gourlay, Collins, Batchelor, Masfield, Baker, etc.

Geographical Concentrations:
UK - Scotland, England

Sharan Farmer
Sims family of Hanover, VA
I am researching the Sims (note spelling) family line from Hanover Co., VA to Ellis Co., TX and am wondering if there is a possible connection between the two families (the four John Syme's) who share a birthplace Hanover VA. There are many common first names. This particular line is William Sims (1655-1710) > Edward (1684-1766) >Bruster (1720-1765) > William (1757-1814) > John (1775-1827) > John Dabney Sims (1802-1878) and Nicholas P. Sims (1806-1902) brothers. I've noticed in documents the spelling SYME used.

I was working on several family member's profiles at once and the birth date for Anne was meant for someone else. I apologize.

RE: Winston Cemetery - Youngsville, NC
Coming from US 1 south going North to youngsville, take right on Bert Winston Rd at stop light, at end of road on left you will see a School, the gravesite is in front of the school(on school property) that is one Winston Cemetery. On the right of the School in the woods, I have been told there is another Winston grave yard up the hill. I hope this helps!

Janet, Can you tell me exactly where this cemetery (Baptist Cemetery, Kingston, TN) is located. I have tried searching for it with no luck. I want to get some gravestone pictures and look for others possibly buried there. Thanks.

Good luck,
