Mission statement: to document not only relatives but as many of the deceased as possible buried in the five Taunton Catholic Cemeteries. |
This project would not be possible without the dedicated and super help from Deanne at the cemetery office and the great staff at both the Old Colony History Museum and Taunton Public Library and other submitters who are working as a team now.
I also thank the people who have relatives buried in these cemeteries, who I have been conversing via e-mail and public messages. Only one negative response out of over 150 messages and many e-mails. That's super!
And let's not forget the dedicated grounds staff of the cemeteries. The Taunton Catholic Cemeteries has a great crew in keeping the cemeteries clean, manicured and in shape.
I'm only related through marriage to maybe 20-30 people buried in these cemeteries, but over the course of finding their "bios" which is kind of limited to their obituaries, it is easy to get attached to them. A lot of interesting Tauntonians, a lot of great stories.
Of course the real reason to document is to honor the deceased by keeping their memories alive on websites such as findagrave and ancestry.
As Mary Anne Evans 22 Nov 1819-22 Dec 1880 the English novelist who wrote under the male pen name of George Eliot, quoted
"Our dead are never dead to us until we have forgotten them"
After reading other contributor's bios, I am amazed at some of the numbers of entries. I see a lot of claims of photo ownership along with the "please do not copy" statements. Please respect their wishes.
But anyone is free to download any photo or entry I submit for their own personal use.
All Taunton (Massachusetts)Daily Gazette death notices and obituaries prior to 2004 were trasnscribed from microfilmed copies kept at the Old Colony History Museum 66 Church Green, Taunton, MA 02780 (508) 822-1622
Deanne is now maintaining memorials I originally created in Taunton.
Added mission since retirement: Document those associated with ties to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.

Find A Grave Memorial# 77747692, just wondering where the birthdate of the 8th came from? The headstone shot sure looks like the 5th and rootsweb.com has his age at 70-3-4 which would make it the 6th. I didn't find any other record with his birthdate yet.

I can't make the change in city designation for St. Luke's Cemetery because I did not originally create the cemetery page; I added memorials to an existing page. I think perhaps Tom Clephane (member #47582819) may have created the cemetery page.

You sent me an edit to include her parents on her memorial. I think that they are buried in Prairie River Cemetery too. Do you know if Lena and Lewis Meyer would be her siblings?
The problem is Sophia's memorial says Sophia Smith Meyer. Do you think that is really Sophia Soleman or Zoleman Meyer? Have you entered an edit to correct the maiden name? Her memorial number is 8199932.
Let me know what you think. I'd rather do a link to her parents than just add the information.
Enjoy the weekend!
|Holly Stevens||Thank you|
You have added important additions to a few of my relatives memorials, the one that comes to mind at the moment is Albert Kenneth Crookes. It really makes the connection to the man behind the dates. I don't recall who manages their memorials but if they haven't said thank you, I wanted you to know I appreciate your work and your obvious motivation to truly memorialize people.
Oh and I love your bio!
Thanks for all the obits from Talbird Cemetery in Hilton Head. Several friends and I photo documented the entire cemetery several years ago now while on vacation on the island. The obits certainly add flavor to each memorial.
I appreciate your great work.
Thanks for updates. I know you have connections to the Brockway area. I'm trying to go through each person I've posted and research. Will take months, by then I'll be out taking more photos.
