Stafford/Colby connection
Hi Mike,

Regarding your post and by chance you are interested, the Fred Colby that appears with Amy Stafford is a great uncle to me and the grandson of Amy. Frederick's father was Alonzo T Colby killed by lighting in 1872 after surviving the Civil War. His mother was Sarah Elizabeth Stafford daughter of Charles Stafford and Amy Ames. She remarried about 1882.

My connection is through Alonzo's father, Thomas L. Colby (he's my gggg grandfather) - another brick wall in my tree.

Hope this helps clarify things!

~Andy

RE: Charles Augustus Stafford
Park's e-mail address is:
park.stafford@mainline.com

I am not related in any way to the Stafford's. Park's mother and I shared genealogical quests and I am the sexton of the East Claridon cemetery which is why I have the information and have put it on FindAGrave.
As I said before, I think Charles's father is Elisha but perhaps your hunt will either prove or disprove it.

Smith family of NY?
I just happened on Daryl Verstreat's public message page and read your lengthy note. Were you writing about THE Joseph Smith, Sr., et al?

I admit to looking through your list of descendants of the Stafford family, since many of the Warner family came from upstate NY and settled in the lowest counties in the MI wilderness; Hillsdale Co. among them. If you don't mind, I am going to copy & paste all that you wrote. Too good to lose track of this information... especially if you were writing about the Joseph Smith family I am thinking about...

RE: Fred Leon Stafford
Yes, my brother-in-law is Richard Grant Jr. His oldest son is Richard A. Grant III. I have looked up the Grant tree because of my nephews and nieces. I'm afraid that Rich is not interested in his family tree. Don't think he know anything about them.

Mike;

Thank you for the correction.

Would you like me to transfer Joshua's page to you?

If not, may I add the information you sent and give you credit for it?

RE: Charles Augustus Stafford
Park Stafford, his mother, and I have tried for years to pin down Charles's father. I think the age on the census is wrong as the inscription has 1815. I found a reference to an Elisha who died in New York in 1815 whom I believe to be the father, based on naming a son Elisha.
I am the sexton and not related to Charles and would be happy to transfer management.
Are you in touch with Park?

RE: Fred Leon Stafford
Thanks Mike for all the information on Fred Stafford. This is how the Stafford family is connected to mine: Fred's brother Reuben Murray Stafford's daughter Helene Thelma Stafford married Charles Elwood Grant. Charles is the Grandfather of my brother-in-law, Richard Grant II who married my sister, thus their 3 children, my niece and 2 nephews would be the great-great-great-grandchildren of Fred's parents, Abram Harrison Stafford and Mary Elizabeth Churchill. Thanks so much for the information. How are you related to Fred? I'll add that to Fred's memorial. If you are a direct relation I would be happy to transfer to you.

RE: Emma J. Stafford
Thanks, Mike, for the information you sent. I'm not sure, though, that I understand it all. I changed her name to Shannon. Is there anything else you'd like me to do?

I see from your bio that you've just recently joined Find A Grave, so I thought I'd share something with you. The best way to make corrections/additions/requests from someone who manages a memorial is to do it through the 'edit' button on the actual memorial. That helps greatly because then there's a direct link to the memorial you're talking about. Some people on Find A Grave won't respond to any corrections etc. unless it's done this way.

RE: David Stafford
I descend from Morrison Stafford, do you have any proof of his father David? I believe it is him also.
