Haskells in Eastern Cemetery
Hi Pamela,

In your note regarding the photo request for Thomas Haskell you asked for photos of any other Haskell markers. Going to the Thomas Haskell memorial and clicking on the link for "other Haskells in Eastern Cemetery", I see that there are 34 other Haskells in this cemetery. Could you go through them one by one and let me know which other ones your want or put in a photo request for each one you want? Thanks.

Peter

I would try to contact the Richmond Times Dispatch.
Their archives should have a copy.

RE: Locating a grave
no idea. Her grave is listed as "Lewis Bowling's mother" and that's all I know! If you learn DOD or anything I'll be happy to add, or if this is family I'd be happy to transfer her to you.

RE: Locating a grave
Hi Pamela, I saw that request the other day & I do know EXACTLY where the grave is, even though there is no stone or marking there. It's listed in our records as "Lewis Bowling's mother". Not sure if I have an obit but will check. I have a family wedding coming up & then will be out of town for a week so will be best to meet up with Janet after the 25th.
(Lewis is buried here too, with his wife) I can find obits for both of those, but would need a Date of death for his mother. Happy to help.

RE: Family obits
I don't have the name for this book but will check when I'm in the library.

RE: THANK YOU
Not necessarily. Everyone that is recorded as having been buried in the city or confederate cemetery is listed as being buried by whoever did the initial research. I'm found more than one person who is supposedly buried there, but there isn't a specified stone for them. And found a person with a direct location not in the record books. Unfortunately some of the stones have deteriorated to the point that they are unreadable. His stone could be one of those. This is a big cemetery with over 14 sections (the two cemeteries are combined into one separated by a road) and it's possible that no one recorded the exact location. As I look for other graves I'll also keep an eye out for his. I'm going to go over and check near the Sarah/Mary stone and see if there is a stone near there.

Family obits
I wish it was luck and good research that allowed me to find the obituaries for your family members, but it isn't. The Fredericksburg Library has several very good books on the cemeteries here and who is buried where. Several of them overlap and some give different information. One of the books is a list of people that there they have obituaries on. Another tells which newspaper listed the obituary and the date. After that it's just a matter of looking for the information. It's a bit time consuming but definitely doable. I'm happy to help.

RE: THANK YOU
I'm glad I was able to find the information. That cemetery is huge. Once you enter the gate, the confederate cemetery is on the right and the town cemetery is on the left. One section ( of 10) for the Bowling family was so huge I had to get the drawing of all the graves and who was buried there to find them. I'm sorry I didn't find a grave for Charles Lewis. Perhaps there will be a location for Sarah and I'll find his with hers.
