|Bruce Gordon||Catholic Burials at Perth, Ontario|
I was in Perth last weekend and while my wife was running in the Kilt Run I took the opportunity to visit the Perth Museum. The Curator of the Museum confirmed that many of the Catholic Burials were moved to St. Johns' Cemetery after it opened in 1871 but not all Catholics were moved just the ones whose families spent the money to do so.
Likely the only way of knowing for sure is if a monument exists at the new cemetery or if a record can be found in the Cemetery records.
I then went to the Craig Street or Pioneer Cemetery and photographed all the extant monuments there. Many are unreadable due to vandalism or weathering. Many are Sandstone and Marble which have not stood up well to the ravages of time and acid rain.
However, one I did record was that of John Noonan (1837-1854), son of James Noonan (1802-1874) and Jane Rudsdale (1808-1875). I have created a record at Craig Street and linked him to his parent's monuments at St. John's. As you manage his parents monuments and I have little relation to this family I have transferred the memorial to your care and will let you decide which is accurate.

just took care of Sophia Liebler memorial and all the edits...thanks for letting me know.
|Dale Schumpert||Catherina Smith|
I have a page from the Ivanhoe Cemetery directory which was compiled by a member of the Lake County Genealogical Society.
I do not believe there is a way for me to attach a document to this message. If you give an email address I will send it.
I have transfered Orville, Alice, and Theo Smith to you. Also Catherine Schmidt Thomas. Is this the Grandma Smith your asking about?
My wife's nephew is on the Ivanhoe Cemetery board and we made copies of the cemetery records and posted them on F-A-G. I will try to find the document and email it to you, if you will give me your email address.
thanks for all your help. I just added the info you wanted for the bio's of Michael Schmidt, Elizabeth Foit and George Foit. I think if have more edits to take care of, and hope to do so soon. again, thanks for everything. JoE

I have added the bio you submitted. Sorry it took me so long, but I was traveling and did not have access to a computer.
Let me know if you want this transferred.
|Gretchen Hoyt McDevitt||RE: Protection|
Got your reply. I want to do some checking and will send you a message where my info on Enoch and Roxana Hoyt is different from yours. I am very glad that you have been working to get accurate information about people buried in Protection Cemetery and to restore the old area of Protection.
One question: Is there anyone that is able to restore headstones and perhaps decipher words that are currently unreadable?
|Gretchen Hoyt McDevitt||Roxana Laird Hoyt|
I have not previously sent a message to anyone who is managing a site. Looked at some of the other messages but cannot figure out how I get a response from you as I only see their messages and not your responses. My email is McDevitt@windwireless.net
I am looking for info on Roxana Laird Hoyt, spouse of Enoch Hoyt, and information on Enoch. I see from the two Find A Grave sites that they are buried next to one another. However, I contacted someone at Holland Cemeteries and got a little info about Protection. The only info he could find is that 6 lots were purchased by Hoyt, E. (not even a first name, just E.)and the gravestone is impossible to read except for the name Roxana. Also, the office information does say Roxana Hoyt. However, they have no birth or death dates for either person. The person sent me photos that confirm that the only readable info on the one headstone is Roxana, no last name or any dates. Nothing about Enoch. The office records show that E. Hoyt bought the 6 lots but do not even show that he is buried in one of them as Find A Grave says. I realize that Lisa is managing Enoch's site so will soon send her this message, too.
Please let me know where you found that the Roxana at Protection is Roxana Laird and was born in 1799. Any other information about Roxana or Enoch would be wonderful, too. I have a little info that conflicts with the Enoch information.
|Sara Tietz Kozel||RE: FARRINGTONS|
Thanks for your helpful note about the Protection Cemetery. Yes, we plan to visit a few other local cemeteries with ancestors in them. So just out of curiosity, what is your take on the arrival of John Farrington in Dedham, where he came from and his parents? I take the conservative approach so far and just say it was prior to his marriage to Mary Bullard in 1649.

Hi Marnie, My brother and I (grandchildren of Martha Rose Farrington) are heading to Protection Cemetery next month. I've printed your plot map. Thanks! How are we related to each other? Sara
