RE: Photo of E. F. Beckenbach
I have just spent the last hour searching for the original of that photo and for the life of me, I can't find it. We moved 3 years ago and it seems like some things have just gone missing. I can find every other "old" photo I have. I'm at my wits end! I'll try again tomorrow but I just don't know where it got to.

Anyway, yes, E.F. Beckenbach was my father. But, honestly, because he was 45 when I was born, I really don't know much about his early years. You might want to try to contact my brother, Edwin S. Beckenbach, at edsb at oro dot net. He is 13 years older than I am and may have more memories of the type you might be able to use.

As far as my name for the credit. Legally it is Sonya B Manderson. Suzy, however, is my nickname.

RE: Please contact me re: Mary Elizabeth Poole Cayton Ballew
Mary Poole Ballew was my gg grandmother. I am not familiar with the name Cayton. Her daughter Almeda Ballew married my great grandfather, Frank McFarland, and one of their daughters was Maud McFarland, who first married Reid Green and then my grandfather, Earl Thomas, Sr., and was the mother of my father, Earl Thomas, Jr., and also my grandmother.

Perhaps you could explain where the name Cayton comes into play. Was she first married to a Cayton and then a Ballew? I would love to see the photo of her. Thanks, Jan

Give me 24 hours or so to track it down and I'll email it to you.

Actually, you're right about the younger one and that would have been taken when he was still "officially" a resident of Oak Cliff since I believe he used his parent's address until he had completed his PhD. Thank you for considering a mention of him in your book. I do have a photo of the family home but it was taken about 4 years ago so is in some disrepair compared to when they lived there.

RE: Photo of E. F. Beckenbach
Photos of my Dad are tough. The ones I have posted are honetly the only ones I have. The best one, which is probably the one you are talking about, as an adult with a big grin on his face, was taken in the mid 1970s at a party and I have no idea who took it from a copyright standpoint. You certainly have my permission to use it as it does fall into the category of "family photos" but I wasn't the photographer. If you need any others, I can see what I can come up with by contacting one of my step-mother's kids to see what they may have from her collection.
