|Mary Phalan||RE: Young grave|
Glad I could help.
|Brian J. Ensley||RE: Catherine Greenwood headstone|
You're very welcome. Sandyvale Cemetery is located along a river in the valley of Johnstown and was devastated by 3 major floods. Many of the headstones were washed away down river and never found. Because of the cemetery being prone to flooding, many of the people were re-interred elsewhere, mainly Grandview Cemetery. Grandview is on the top of a hill so there was never an issue of flooding there.
Of those who were not re-interred elsewhere, many no longer have headstones and are in unmarked graves. The records were lost, too, so there is no way to know who is where. The handful of headstones that were spared were moved around by the flood and are now all gathered up and erected in a small group. Volunteers tried to do the best they could with the stones without the knowledge of the actual grave locations within the cemetery where they belong.
Grandview's on-line database is the link that I'll paste below. I did a quick search and didn't see anything, but their database is known for spelling errors.
