|Bill Webster||James H. Webster|
I found a record with James H. Webster's name on it http://digicoll.library.wisc.edu/SurveyNotes/maps/Columbia.html He is listed as the "Marker" for James E. Freeman, Deputy US Surveyor, on the affidavit for Sauk Co.section T10N-R5E conducted from Dec. 1844 to Jan 1845.
Earlier I found a note on this in "A Standard History of Sauk County" by Henry Ellsworth Cole published in 1918. pages 387 & 388 http://content.wisconsinhistory.org/cdm/compoundobject/collection/wch/id/50734/rec/1 It said their tent burned up and they spent the nights sleeping on layers of branches with leaves and covered up with buffalo robes and blankets for a couple of weeks.
