Edith Lyons/ Yontz
Hey, I found an Edith Yontz at Cavalry with the same birth and death years as the Edith Lyons listed. Can I assume this is the same person, seeing as they were near Terry Yontz? I am going to fulfill the Edith Lyons request with the photo of the marker named Edith Yontz.

Oops - make that 50-55 years ago, not 40-45.

Josef - Possible New Lead

I was talking with a friend who is a local historian and asked her about abandoned burial grounds near a creek in the Colfax area. She said that she heard there was one along a creek near Illinoistown that was displaced when Interstate 80 was built in the late 1950's. Could your relatives' visit to Josef's grave have been 40-45 years ago instead of 30, as you indicated in one of your earlier messages? If so, this is a possible new lead. My friend is going to see what she can track down from CalTrans about where those graves may have gone.

RE: Josef Paryzek

I just spoke to the head of the Colfax Historical Society archives group, and she vaguely recalls that people used to be buried in Illinoistown, which is near Colfax, but no longer has a formal cemetery. Can your family members who visited Josef's grave describe at all how they got to it? Some landmarks might help.

RE: Josef Paryzek

I'll pass on the info about the stream to the Colfax Cemetery custodian, who has lived in the area all his life. Perhaps there is a defunct cemetery in the area that he remembers.

I plan to go to the Historical Society archives next week (they're only open Wednesday mornings) and see if I can find Josef's obituary for you.

BTW, my paternal grandfather was from a small town in Bohemia, a few miles due south of Prague.
