Michigan to Chicago transplant. |
Find a Grave has been very helpful in piecing together my genealogy, and it is a community effort.
Happy to help with photo requests in Chicago and nearby suburbs. Please feel free to leave a message.

|Hebrew Benevolent Society of Chicago||RE: sidney a colen|
When you mentioned the Alschuler family, I was able to look the above mentioned up in a different listing. Our records show the name as "Cohen" rather than "Colen". I will take care of that on our end.

I am the president of the Hebrew Benevolent Society of Chicago which manages 2 of the 4 sections at the cemetery known as Jewish Graceland. I have records of burials in all 4 sections. I have received an inquiry about the grave of Sidney A. Colen. I do not show him in MY records, yet you have a picture of his stone at Jewish Graceland. Do you have a gate/section/row number for him?

P.S. To find any of this information, you will have much more luck using the SS in any search!

To answer your question, too numerous to mention!:) He was the first pastor of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Chicago, and they have information on him in a few publications as well as within the church itself.(he has his own window as part of the history of Immanuel via Stained Glass Artwork in the chapel) He was Immanuel's first pastor, and later, his son in law became Immanuels 2nd Pastor (Pastor Evald was first married to Rev Carlsson's daughter Annie and after her death, he married her sister, Emmy). I made the spelling change suggestion, as I had almost created a memorial myself, as it wasn't listed with the double S. "Old" Swedes will look for the SS spelling, but, if you need "sources", you can pick one from many MANY others. History of Swedes In Illinois, I'm quite sure any of the Lutheran synods websites will also have information. If you are a relative, I highly recommend stopping by to see his "window" there! (as well as seeing if they have a copy of one of the anniversary books for you that has his family and history.)

May I have your permission to download the photo of the gravestone of Albert MacCalla (Memorial# 63442392)?
I would like to upload it into my Ancestery family tree
Thank you for your consideration.

That would be great - thanks!
Thanks for trying to fulfill my photo request for James and Hannah Pearson at Graceland. I realize there are no headstones and thought I mentioned that in my request but was hoping for just a couple of photos of the area. If you are willing to return to the cemetery, please use email me (using regular email) at email@example.com before you go and I can you a better idea of location as I have pictures - was looking for better ones - and maps which I can provide.

That's a great map! How did you find that memorial page with the map?!? ;-) We'll make a visit. Zoroaster is my wife's 3x-great-uncle.
