I am retired and live in Tucson where I grew up. I lost my lovely wife, Linda, early in 2011. We traveled widely and visited many cemeteries looking for some of her family members. |
Linda's cousin, Terri, is their family historian and genealogist and suggested to me that I could use my rekindled interest in photography to assist findagrave.com users with their photo requests.
Since there are no cemeteries in my zip code, I "adopted" the one that includes Evergreen and Holy Hope Cemeteries. NOTE: After repeated problems getting any cooperation at Holy Hope, I will no longer attempt to fulfill requests for that cemetery.

|Linda ||Citizen's Cemetery, Tucson|
Do you know where Citizen's Cemetery is in Tucson? Somebody has requested a photo from this cemetery and for the life of me I can't find it.
I do know it is defunct, but it doesn't show up on any AZ cemetery project list, AZ historic cemeteries, etc. I can find Citizen Cemetery in Prescott, Flagstaff, Maricopa County, etc., but not Tucson.
Now my curiosity is really up! Let me know. Hope you are keeping cool and the rain has found your neighborhood.

Oh yeah, now that you mention it, I did read that in your bio -- short term memory! Alas!

I posted the photo on Cecilia Contreras' memorial page, BUT! Please feel free to post your pic, let me know and I'll delete mine.
I only did it because I was receiving emails from the requestor so please go ahead and post your pic, let me know and I'll take mine off.

I'm at Holy Hope to fulfill photo request of Ralph Steve Contreras marker and he doesn't have a marker, but next to him is Cecilia H Conreras 1938 - 1980. I'm wondering if your requester accidentally recorded the wrong cemetery on the memorial request.
Check out what Evergreen has. I'll email you the pic, but give me several hours to finish taking pics and get home.

|Linda ||John Rufus at Evergreen|
Had a thought! If Evergrren does not have a record of John (or his alias) or if there is a record, but no marker, please contact the person who created the memorial page and ask that they add a note to the page that the cemetery has no record of Mr Rufus or his alias or there is not a marker.
This way any future researchers will know the info and avoid posting a photo request. Of course, this is assuming my memory is correct!
I have just started asking creators of memorial pages to add this note. To date, the 2 or 3 that I have made the request have followed thru which is nice.
Just a thought for future researchers to know the status.
Stay cool and drink water!

I'm going to be at Holy Hope and Evergreen tomorrow, Tues., June 19. Would you like me to take the Evergreen photos for you and then email them to you to post and complete the request?
Let me know.

|Linda ||Evergreen Cemetery|
I've never had any problems at Evergreen, but then I don't tell them I'm there to take & post a picture on a website.
This past week, I was warned via email from another Tucson contributor that she stopped taking pictures at Evergreen 2 years ago because she was threatened with arrest by Evergreen management.
I did go to Evergreen's website and looked high and low to find any policy re: the taking of any photos and couldn't find a posted policy. Another contributor was surprised I was taking pics at Evergreen because there are signs posted that read "No pictures." I haven't seen those signs, but then I'm not looking for them!
So, in the interest of everybody being able to to make requests and have them fulfilled, please be careful and discreet.

|Linda ||John Rufus aka Benjamin Pier @ Evergreen|
This looks and sounds so familiar. I think I tried fulfilling this request within the last year, year and a half. If I remember correctly, Evergreen could not find a record of him or he didn't have a marker so don't be surprised if you can't fulfill it.
Whatever the circumstances were, I know I notified the requestor, unless, of course, it is a different requestor. Alas! Memory isn't what it use to be.
Good luck. Let me know the outcome.

Thank you for all the information and for taking a photo of the location. This appears to be a well kept up cemetery. I also want to express my appreciation for all the Photo Volunteers at Find A Grave. Volunteers like you make this site so special, Thanks again,

Thank you so much for all the effort you made in trying to find Edith Reid's headstone. I got the cemetery from the death notice in the paper which was apparently wrong. Appreciate all you do,
