|Leanne Keefer Bechdel||RE: David Steele Grave|
david steele Buff. X roads :
I would reply directly but cannot as message was from anonymous;
I am still searching for my copy of the entire Buff. x road cemetery listing (nothing is in it's proper place due to home construction) But the puzzle still intrigues me, a quick search of living room resources: The original recordings were done in the 20's However, the tombstones of Union County book by Mary Belle Lontz index lists 3 Steele persons Bert, James Purnell and Marion. Her work was based on those earlier listings.
No David Steele listed is in the Rev. War Patriot list from 1915 for patriots connected to Buffalo Valley Pa. This earliest known listing covered Old Northumberland County. He is also not listed in the revised list that added an additional 44 names to the 1915 list by DAR historian Mrs. Wm. Bartol. The GOOD news is neither of them list Peter Reish, a known patriot ( who does have a headstone in a private family burial).
Linn's Annals of Buffalo Valley makes a reference to an Alexander Steele pg 254 c1788 having a house near Lewisburg . page 270 lists pews in Buff. xroads church under year 1791 pew # 11 John Steele, Joseph Hudson and William Steele.
pg 300 we finally find one David Steel (no e) blacksmith 1796 list of inhabitants of East Buff.
He is not listed in the deaths of 1804 pg343-45 but in 1806 William Steele, Buffalo is listed in deaths pg 354 but no mention of where he is buried.
So far I have not seem any evidence that he IS buried there. Please, if someone has some, let me know.
