I am originally from Chisholm, Minnesota and have lived in Alaska for over 30 years. Genealogy has been a passion of mine for about as many years. While researching my family, I came across several cousins and uncles killed in World War II. This led me to start researching the war casualties from my hometown and, subsequently, helping other researchers with their searches.|
My dad, Louis Novak, was a World War II US Army Air Corps veteran and a Master Sergeant of the Minnesota Air National Guard, 179th and later 148th FIG for over 20 years. In 1960 he was selected to represent the State of Minnesota and nominated for the Air Force Association's "Outstanding Airman Award" for the entire U.S. He spent many years serving our country and many years honoring our veterans. In his last years he and American Legion Post 247 built a beautiful memorial to our veterans. My dad managed to get an F-94C Starfire donated to Chisholm in the early 1960's and then asked the Duluth ANG 148th FIG to refurbish and repaint the jet. His name is proudly painted on the side of the jet. It stands as the centerpiece and the star of the war memorial. To view this wonderful tribute go to www.ironrangeveterans.org Since the photos were taken, a U.S. Navy ship anchor has been added. In 2000 my Dad did a special project for the local newspaper to commemorate those who were lost in World War II. Every week for several weeks he gleaned old newspaper publications and published those photos and short bios on a 2 page spread. I am trying to upload those portraits and bios to the FAG memorials. I lost my beloved dad on his 87th birthday, January 3, 2014, but his legacy lives on.
Although I live in Alaska I visit Northern Minnesota about twice a year. If you are willing to wait a few months, I am willing to take photos in Chisholm, Hibbing, Virginia, Eveleth & Duluth, Minnesota and Superior, Wisconsin cemeteries.

I've linked Stanley to his parents. Are you planning to include any biographical info for either parent? I believe I still have my notes from researching Stanley that included some info on his parents and family if you're interested. I also put in photo requests for their grave marker(s). I do believe we've about covered this family!

Dear Ms. Lindgren,
Unsure at this time if your Louis Press and mine are the same person. If you make the connection please let me know and I will delete my entry.

You sent me the below message....
I was at the courthouse in Marinette and was able to add information from her death certificate onto her memorial.... hope there is more information for you from the death certificate.
Thank you very much for setting up a memorial for Esther Defer. I have been researching her for 30 years at which time my father-in-law didn't even know his grandmother's name. I've tried to find her every time I get to Minnesota and have been hitting as many northern Wisconsin cemeteries as possible, read more old newspaper articles than I can count and finally, after tracking her to Sheboygan, was able to confirm that this is her grave. I'll be sending you a bio as soon as I get a chance to write it.
Thank you for your contributions to Find A Grave! They are truly appreciated by many.
Happy family hunting!
