Oh gosh - I meant I was wandering through! There are a lot of cat people, and just generally people who appreciate animals, here at F-A-G. I find them to be very wonderful and compassionate. So great that you came along at just the right time to rescue your cute kitty. Lizzy was a foundling too. She was exhausted, starving, and being chased away by others, when my daughter brought her home to begin her life with us.

Thanks for making changes. No need to transfer, I don't have anything further to add at this time.
Thanks anyway. Karen

RE: your profile picture
Hi database for CSA material...not sure even what that is. I'm not the most computer literate individual and I've only been on this site a little more than two weeks. So, yeah, I am kinda lost on that one. My hope is to keep finding these little out of the way cemeteries and making sure all of the people in them are recognized. Found several more CSA vets today while out and about. What a great hobby while the weather holds up here! I suggested a while back that we put a 50 foot high wall around DC, fill it with water and drown all of those rats! "A government of the people, by the people and for the people". Ha! Thomas Jefferson and all of our founding fathers are rolling in their collective graves. Sorry for the rant...back to your regularly scheduled programming now :)

Oakes-Hedrick House
I was confused too until I went & looked in an old folder & saw I had pics of both houses.

The larger one is the one Joab Oaks built & my ancestor Hedrick bought. The smaller one is the one Mr. Davis bought.

I have no idea which child it was that sold the property. I have never been to the property myself. I am planning a family history trip up there hopefully in the spring & I can get deed records, etc.

I do know that in the 1950's there were still several old buildings on the property including an outhouse, smoke house for pigs, a smoke house for tobacco (the farm always had been tobacco until the end of the 20th century), a barn, a carriage house, a well house & a spring house for cold storage. My mother remembers the house as a child, the outhouse & spring house.

I've wondered about the building in the corner of the picture myself. Mom doesn't seem to be able to place it.

I have never met Great-Aunt Louise Hodges' granddaughter, but I hope to & maybe she will let me photo or video the inside of the house, especially the mantle's & staircase.
