Christine Tilley #53308935 Hi Dave, I just spoke with your cousin Diane Alsop, (She says "Hello"!) We were just discussing her father's memorial (he passed away Nov. 2, 2014). I linked him with his wife Christine and added his B.D., she would like you to add the names of their children to this memorial: Richard, Diane, Sandra, Gary and David. I told her I would pass this along to you. Thanks!
Harnett Chapel I looked again at the folks buried there. The reason Uncle George Barber is buried there is apparently because that's where his Revels in-laws are buried. So I wondered what happened between the time he died and the time his wife and sons died that they could not be buried there, too.
It sure seems a shame Uncle George is there all alone, with no family. I do believe if I had a lot of money, I'd move him over to the cemetery on Oakridge Duncan Road where his wife and two sons are buried. I would love to know how the folks on my maternal grandmother's Barber side knew the folks on my son-in-law's Baker side, but I can find no connection yet.
There is an existing church in Dunn called Harnett Chapel. I wonder if there is any connection to the old Harnett Chapel on Purfoy. Maybe that church there across the road was the site of an earlier Harnett Chapel.
I doubt I'll go traipsing through the field and woods to get to the cemetery since you've already taken photos.
Harnett Chapel Cemetery I am confused now. I went to Duncan Church of God cemetery on Oakridge Duncan Road, which I thought was Harnett Chapel cemetery, but there are way too many people buried there for it to be Harnett Chapel. The Church of God cemetery is across the road from the church, right at the intersection of Bakertown Rd. My Great-grand uncle George H. Barbour's wife, Lenora Revels Barbour Johnson, is buried there, and I believe they share a stone there, but I'll have to go back to see for sure.
I took my nine-year old grandson, who is a Baker (my son-in-law is a Baker), and showed him the graves of his grandfather, great-grandparents and great-great-grandparents. For a young fella, he is into a lot of things, such as civil war history, ancestry, etc. so he and I do a lot of wandering around Johnston, Wake and Harnett Counties, finding Stuff. :)
So, if Harnett Chapel has only 14 burials, then the answer to your question is, no, I did not find it. I could not find the Duncan Church of God cemetery listed in find-a-grave either, so it must be under another name.
I have deleted my entries for Nary and Laura Chabot - from Old Notre Dame Cemetery. You are right, there is an invisible border between Notre Dame and St Mary's cemeteries. It can be difficult to tell where one ends, and the other starts. I apologize for the delay in doing this. My husband had 4 hip surguries between Oct 29 and Jan. There were many weeks of rehab both at home and a rehab/nursing home. There were many Dr appts, and physical therapy. I'm telling you this just so that you will understand the delay and realize that I wasn't ignoring your request.
