In my younger days I walked, mapped and photographed many cemeteries in Iowa,Johnson,Washington,Marion and Lucas Counties. Now The people added are either in our family Cemeteries, in our family tree books or someone who has touched our family's lives very personally. We don't just go through the paper and add people to get our numbes up. Thanks for your understanding.|
Our family has always loved finding long lost family members. We are starting to loose our older generation with the sharp family memories fast. This is why we are working together as a team to get updates done quickly, before they are all gone.
Why are there multiple memorials for the same individual? How does Find A Grave handle duplicate memorials?
Because so many people add data to Find A Grave, there are often duplicate cemeteries and duplicate memorials added. This is a very common situation and is quite difficult to resolve in a way that keeps everyone happy.
Before adding a memorial, start in a beginning search for the name first to see if a record with that name has already been added. Sometimes just a name is added ans a cemetery is added later.
This is what we follow. We also go to the Cemetery and add the first three letters to check to see if a memorial is added. If no memorial is there than we add the name.
If another is there and we are related we will ask for a transfer. We are not after to get our numbers high. We add people if there are related, good friends of the family or someone who has touched our life deeply.

Thanks so much for contacting me. Someone in the family had told me awhile back that Lorna had passed away but had no date. I should have known better!
My husband is a cousin of Charles Alvin Smith. I can transfer him to you if you would like. I have deleted Lorna's entry.

Hi! No problem, I was just letting you know that it created a duplicate memorial for him. When transcribing headstones it will sometimes pop up a memorial that's already made for the person you're working on. For whatever reason it didn't do that this time. You may want to post the pics you took to the older memorial #97895362 and delete the new memorial so there aren't two. I think you should get credit for the pictures you took. :)
