Orlow, continued
By the way, my G3GF also died in 1880, that's why I gave his case as an example.

Orlow Gager, Hillside Cemetery
I saw your request for a photo of Orlow's grave. Unfortunately, there might be a problem fulfilling the request. Since he died in 1880, Benedict's Monuments, the keeper of the cemetery records, probably won't have an alphabetical record of his burial. The cemetery wasn't incorporated until about 1900, so the earlier records were less complete. And those records were lost when they became water-damaged and moldy while kept in the basement of cemetery's chapel building. There MAY be a lot record, as they were written from the early 1900s, but that would require reading through all those lot books. Even so, many of the earlier burials were recorded merely as "Interment" with unknown names and dates. [Example: My own Civil War G3GF was considered "lost", but through research at the Historical Society of Middletown and Wallkill Precinct, I was very lucky to find his original lot deed with the lot number. Mr Benedict then went out with me to help me find him. G3GF's marker is marble, placed under an acidic cedar tree, and is barely legible today. There are also 4 unknown "Interments" in his lot that lack markers. I have candidates for those 4 burials, but don't know for sure who they are.] Additionally, some of the older single graves placed around the periphery of the cemetery have missing or sunken markers. So, as you can see, there are some problems with the graves of the older, unwealthy burials.

Sorry >_<
