RE: Question
Hi Dave,
Thanks for the follow up on Mary O'Connor, my great grandmother. I found a picture you can download here of Patrick and Mary. It was in my mother's collection I share with my sisters.
Mary's daughter, Rose is my grandmother and she died in Syracuse, NY in 1919 from surgical complications. My Mon was only three, so she didn't have much information about Rose except that she lived in Wheeling WV at some time. That fact helped my to find your aunt Lizzie O'Connor and her McCracken family. Lizzie is the sole connection to Wheeling I could find. When I traced Rose McGinnis to Barbour county, I had a very hard time finding her parents Patrick and Mary because no birth record exists for Rose and she was sent to live with her O'Connor grandparents in Randolph county, WV and then sent to a Pittsburgh PA orphanage where she grew up. She married in Pittsburgh and I was lucky to find her on a census in the orphanage and later living on the same street before getting married (1910) to my GF, David Welch who was there working in a steel mill. They moved to Syracuse a few years later.
I am working on the father James of Sarah Powers O'Connor and it has been difficult. That's where I ran into your GED and the pedigree at FamilySearch. (btw, how do you know he was "working on father's farm in 1830"? That looked like a source on the pedigree and I was searching for the document. FS told me it was a comment. ???) Any way, I do not believe James Powers is the son of William D Powers,b 1865, the
son of pioneer John Powers. Because William, age 72 lives with James & Narcissa on the 1850 census in Randolph county and after James marries Marg't George in 1859, William, now age 86, moves into the home of Sarah and Michael O'Connor on the 1860 census. So, William is too young to be the the son of John Powers. And there is no record of Major Powers connecting him to the John Powers family and he seems too old to be his son. major owns land adjacent to what was John's but the will of John Powers does not mention Major. Look at Ancestry for a tree with Major Powers by Delores Power who uploaded a family document of powers ancestry starting with Major Powers and Mary Pettyjohn. They had a son William born Oct 1776 and I am guessing he is the father of James Powers, father of Sarah. John and Major Powers could be cousins or uncle nephew or even brothers. We need to find their birth records. But James Powers was born in Louisa county, VA where he married Narcissa. His parents are William and Mary according to the marriage record with Marg't George. (She didn't make it to the 1860 census either.) But I found a marriage for Mrs Narcissa Powers in Ohio. Without a death record, I wonder if she left James and maybe Marg't George left him too.
A bunch of these WV Powers moved to Indiana and are buried in Henry county and some are in Clarinda, Iowa. Do you have them in your tree?
Check your tree and your sources. I'm fairly certain James is not directly related to the son of John Powers, the pioneer. We need to trace Major Powers to his birthplace. His name shows up in Goochland county, VA but I haven't got the family details there.
I'm using Archives for my tree and have used up my free trials at Ancestry. Archives has a great system for tracking event data with notations and it helps me build trees and sort out the confusion of names.
Keep in touch.

Hello Dave,
I noticed your contributions to the pages of Mary Ellen O'Connor McGinnis and Nancy Spilman McCracken. Mary is my great grandmother who died after giving birth to Rose, my grandmother. And Mary's sister Elizabeth married James McCracken in Wheeling, WV.
Are you related to the O'Connor family? If so, please send me a note. Perhaps we might have some genealogical information to share.
