Bio and Links
Bio Photo I was born in Sacramento, California and lived there for 56 years until I retired in 2013. I now live in the Texas Hill Country.

The Old Historic Sacramento City Cemetery is not only a historical landmark, it is a beautiful place to visit. The best time to visit the cemetery is in the Spring time when all the flowers are in bloom. If you love old cemeteries, i'm sure you would enjoy looking at the Old Historic Sacramento City Cemetery Photo Gallery on my family website.

My profile picture is a picture of the stained glass window in the John Watt mausoleum.

Over the years, the toombstones and monuments at the Old Historic Sacramento City Cemetery have been vandalized and stolen, and a lot of the toombstones can hardly be read any more. Just take a look at some of the memorials and you can see how bad some of the headstones are. It was my goal to photograph as many of the old and decaying headstones so that they can at least be preserved in photographs on this website.

In creating the memorials, I tried to be as accurate as possible. I used the information on the headstone and the information on the Sacramento City Cemetery Burial Index ("The Marsh Index"). If there was a discrepancy, I did additional research on the internet. Anyone that does genealogical research knows that people make mistakes and that the records are not always accurate; mostly due to trying to decipher cursive writing. So if you believe any information in any of the memorials is inaccurate, please let me know.

I also look for newspaper birth, marriage and death notices for the people I create memorials for. Newspaper articles are a real good source of information, and great for linking family members. I used the California Digital Newspaper Collection .

If you send me a suggestion or correction for a memorial please provide some documentation or other evidence to support it.

Thank you.

William Harold Lee
Hello,

William Harold Lee is my father and his date of birth is August 31, 1923 not August 21 as you entered. The correct date is on his grave stone in the photo, as well a listed in the Social Security Death Index. His Mother was Vera Mae Sizelove, she is buried in the Gridley Biggs cemetery in Biggs California, buried with her mother, Hannah J. Sizelove (my grandmother). My father married Raphalia Marchiesello born in NJ 3/21/33, and died 8/5/2010 in Walnut Creek, California. She is buried in the Italian Cemetery in Colma, California. They are the parents of:

Linda Delores May 23, 1953 in SF
Gary William June 15, 1954 in SF
Kathleen Marie June 26,1955 in SF
Diane Iris May 14, 1957 in SF
Candace Joy November 12,1960 in SF
Terrence Patrick March 15, 1963 in SF (twin)
Gerald Jan March 15, 1963 in SF (twin)

My father was also married to Audrey Marie Campbell before my Mother. They had one son

Richard Alden Lee , he was born on 2/1/47 in SF, died 10/2/88 in Los Angeles.

Can you please add this new information to his find a grave memorial? One other thing that I wanted to mention, my father is buried in the same plot with his father, and my Grandfather William Henry Lee, he was born in 1900 and died in 1938.

Barney Kearney
If you would like to transfer Barney Kearney (84001580) over to me I'll be happy to maintain his memorial information. Barney was my great uncle and I currently maintain memorials for his parents, grandparents and siblings in Maryland and a few other states. I have quite a bit of information on Barney and I'll be happy to update. I visited his grave in Sacramento 2 years ago after searching for him for many years. Thanks for maintaining his memorial on this website.

Fannie Seamans
I noted the photo of Fannie Seamans grave, wife of Otis Seamans in Sacramento City Cemetery. She is located next to two similar stones and I am wondering if you happened to have taken photos of those stones. I would like to know if there is a relationship of those buried next to Fannie. If they might be from the same family.

Laura Richardson #73007118
Hi,
Thanks for up-loading Laura's burial to Find A Grave. I believe her husband Soloman Richardson (1822 NY - 1909 CA)is buried next to Laura also in Lot 1579. Is there a marker for him? He is listed with a death in Sacramento 19 May 1909. Both Laura and Soloman are from New York. We believe Laura's maiden name was Simonds; do you or the cemetery have additional records?
Soloman's son Victor is Find A Grave memorial #27257366 (Latrobe Cemetery), Soloman's brothers Parson Richardson Find A Grave memorial #129134607 (Masonic Lawn Cemetery) & Demas Richardson Find A Grave memorial #98928100 (El Dorado Cemetery). There are additional family members linked to the above noted memorials.

Thanks again,
-john
