RE: Mattie Green
You are very welcome Carolyn and glad that I could help you. I was searching the cemetery for some of my family line and took photos of some of the stones for FindaGrave website. Let me know if I can help any other way with your family line in my area. Wayne

RE: Tennessee Corvin Jordan
Hi Carolyn

I believe you probably know Barbara Gholdston but I'm not exactly sure how you are related to her. She and I were discussing the family a month or so ago and she was the one who gave me the information about "Aunt Tenie" having a second husband, George Washington Jordan. She said that Tenie was her great aunt.

I was researching my great uncle Pleasant Stanley and never could find out what happened to him. We still don't know but assumed he died in Alabama where he and Tenie were living in 1880. Pleasant and Tennessee Corvin were married on Aug 21, 1878 in Rhea County. They had one child, Florence Stanley. After Pleasant "died" Tenie moved back to Bledsoe County where she met and married George and had 9 children with him, including Rolley and your father, Vurl. In the 1910 Federal Census she states that she had 10 children and all 10 were still alive. The 10th child is Florence. Your father is listed in that census as 16 years old.

By the way, Florence Stanley and her husband John Raymond Wilson lived in the Morgan Town (Morgan Springs Rd) up on Dayton Mountain until theirs deaths in 1942 and 1948, respectively. They were both buried in Brayton Cemetery and I added their findagrave memorials yesterday.

I'm curious about your comment that your great grandmother was Cherokee. I assume you mean Tenie and if so, do you have proof that she was Cherokee. That would be of interest to me. Her father was James C. Corvin who was born in Virginia and that certainly was not Cherokee land at the time he was born. Her mother, Sarah Jane Fox (Martin) was born in Tennessee. I have seen many family stories that this relative or that one was Indian but rarely have I seen proof. If you have documents that prove this about Tenie I would dearly love to have a copy.

Regards

Paul

Tennessee Corvin Jordan
Carolyn, I just linked your great grandmother to Florence Stanley Wilson; I hope you don't mind. Florence was the daughter of Tennessee Corvin and her first husband, Pleasant Stanley of Meigs County. Pleasant was my grand uncle, the son of John L Stanley and Nancy Ann Johns.
