Paul Belew - Researcher |
I am an eight generation descendent of Renney Belue and a descendent of his son Zachariah Belew. Then my Belew line goes to Samuel, Richard Aaron, Samuel, LeRoy, Hershel, and then to myself, Paul Belew. I was born and raised in Woodward, Oklahoma.
I have set up my Virtual Cemeteries by each generations, so you can easily search the generation you may be looking for.
When I became interested in my family history was in 1968, three months before my grandfather, LeRoy Belew, died. What small amount of information he was able to share with me before he died, gave me a start as to where to look next.
In late 2010, I published a book (538 pages), "Our Belew Line," for my family and especially my grandchildren and their children, where they would know about our family heritage. This book shows our family was rich in American History. With it written more as story from the documents and their time line, I feel you will enjoy reading about Renney Belue and his family.
I do not take full credit for all my information I have on my family and do give credit to many other Belue-Belew researchers who have shared their information with me. I thank Naomi Young, Tom and Eleanor Belew, Muriel Barnett, Billy Sherriell, Jere Cox, Jean Benz, Lill Steel, Jean Black, Ron Mitchell, and several more who were the early ones when the Belew/Belue Report, a quarterly newsletter, was started. The purpose of this group was to share our research in hopes of finding my oldest ancestor in the 1730s, Renney Belue's origian, which we labeled "The Renney Belue Mystery."

I'm sorry. I have no information whatsoever on Hannah Robinson. I just maintain the memorial.
Paul, you're an established Belew family researcher and I appreciate the tremendous work you have put into this effort. I saw the Find A Grave memorial for Judith noting that she may have been buried in Warrior Creek Cemetery in Alabama. While she does have some Alabama descendants there, including mine, have you seen any documentation placing her there? One Belew family researcher that you mention in your list told me that Judith was buried in Warrior Creek Cemetery in South Carolina. That one does appear among the South Carolina cemeteries listed on Find A Grave.

Do you have a clipping of the obituary you attached to his grave? I'm filling out a DAR membership form and I need a document of some sort to prove that Cora Alice Tosh married George Louis Ferrell and this obituary would help. But I'm not sure whether I need a copy of the clipping or just the words. Thanks. Marie Smith

HI Paul. Thanks for correcting. I do not know for sure but like you I assume she is buried there. What needs to be checked are the old newspapers for that area to see if any of them were listed in them for burials. Kaye

Thought Judith married Willam Powers vs a John Powers.

I am not related to the Belew line (at least, not directly). But there were a lot of Belews in Denton County, TX. In fact, there is a really large cemetery named Belew up by Pilot Point. I never got the chance to work that one before we moved to Dallas. One of the people I know was posting names from a survey done in the 1980s.
Good luck with your searches.

Thanks for the links; they have been added.
Suggestion: It would be easier to add these links if you sent the information using the EDIT link found at the top right of the meorial page, and then clicking the SUGGESTION link on the next page. When you use that process, an e-mail will be created that will have a link to the memorial page as well as your Find A Grave ID #.

Yes, I was surprised to find the top half of the stone off its base. I don't know how that could have happened. I know it can get pretty windy here in Oklahoma but I don't believe it was blown over! The metal rods are still there and it appears it just needs to be lifted up and sat back down in the holes. Before going through a monument company I would call the guys working there at the cemetery and see if there was any way they could hoist it back onto the base. They do have some equipment. The number for the Fairview Cemetery is 918-256-3474. I see the guys arriving there around 7:00 a.m. when I am going to work. They leave around 3:30 p.m. Otherwise, the monument companies here in Vinita are through either funeral home and they are:
Burkhalter Funeral Home 918-256-6444 and
Luginbuel Funeral Home 918-256-5555 (everyone says they are much more expensive on their work but I have no experience with them to know)
If you can get it repaired I will be happy to go out and take pictures again anytime.

Keep in mind the death date in the family Bible may be right - other people do make mistakes. Just wish the stone would have been more legible.
I am amazed at the amount of people I hear from that states their relative had been shot and killed coming home from somewhere back in those days. This must have been a really rough area back then.
