Bio and Links
Bio Photo I was born and raised in Richmond, VA and have lived in Powhatan County for the past 15 years.

I am a big history buff. My great uncle, Burnell Bonner Hodge, went down with the "Fighting Sullivans" on the USS Juneau during WWII and I have many ancestors who fought in the Civil War. The frock coat of my distant cousin, William Renick Hodge, is on display at the Museum of the Confederacy in Richmond, VA.

My love of history is secondary to why I am so interested in this site though. My #1 reason is for future generations to know at least a little something about the people who made those big life decisions that ultimately brought them into the world. It only takes about 3 generations for a deceased person to be forgotten, or never known, especially if the family of the deceased is "geographically challenged". This site allows people to view their ancestors' resting places any time they want.

My closest relatives and main interest of research:

GUNN (maiden name of maternal grandmother) Brunswick & Lunenburg, VA

KENNEDY (maiden name of mother; last name of maternal grandfather) Selma & Johnston, NC

HODGE (maiden/last name of myself; father; paternal grandfather) Bath, Rockingham & Augusta, VA

SWEARENGIN (maiden name of paternal grandmother) Bath, Rockingham & Augusta, VA

I am also interested in researching my childrens' ancestry on the paternal side:

JESTER (maiden name of my oldest son's paternal grandmother) Richmond & Chincoteague, VA

THOMAS (last name of my oldest son's paternal grandfather) Not sure where his family originated. He was adopted by the Thomas family in Richmond, VA but his birth name was KITE.

BRESETT (maiden name of my other 2 sons' paternal grandmother) New Jersey

CARPENTER (last name of my other 2 sons' paternal grandfather) New Jersey & New York

RE: Correction regarding Ray Allen Swearengin
Kym, If you type in the name Garrett Van Swearingen, you will find the history of the beginning of Swearengin's/Swearingen's in the new America. I do not know if these sites still are good, but I found info under;; these sites were found in March 2004. Those sites got me to the Fourth generation. I then picked up and found what I could and have the family up to our generation ( the Tenth) and typed it. If you wish, I can email you that info, (but it is not a compete thing). I also have from the Bath County Historical Society a list of Swearengin's buried in Rehobeth Methodist Church Cemetery on Pig Run (Route 633) in eastern Bath County. I can mail that to you if you wish. Hope this helps you.

Correction regarding Ray Allen Swearengin
My name is Joan Swearengin, and I am married to Ray Allen Swearengin. His Father was Allen Junior Swearengin, and he died in 200l in Bosie, Idaho. What is listed is Ray Allen Swearengin passed away in 2001, but that was his Father. You can contact me if you wish and I have done some research on the Swearengin Family, and have 11 generations back. The first to come to the US was Garret Van Swearengin in 1657. More info if interested.

Well its always nice to meet a potential Cuz. :)
I also have a Cuz that is a direct linage to a William Welcome Hodge, DNA. We have been slam worn out with frustration tryn to connect our lines.
So far my line is a start at a Reuben Hodge, then Major Anderson Hodge. Am sure there are more WBTS soldiers in that unfound line. CANT FIND ANYTHING MUCH ON REUBEN & POLLY. Polly is more than likely a nickname. Shows they only had 2 children which I find hard to believe.
Have managed to connect several generations. Then you run into stalled connections reason none reply.
So pleased you contacted me.
I also have several WBTS heros in my SARTIN/BURTON/GASKINS lines and am determined to preserve their memory.
I am not one which does F.A.G just for the high numbers. I mainly look for family & connect them.
You keep in touch Cuz.

Henry Jacobs edit
I appreciate you offering a death date for Henry, but unfortunately I need to reject your edit for #71126371 as your date is for the wrong person. There was a Henry Jacobs who died on Mar 9, 1989 in Richmond, VA, but that man was born Mar 20, 1921 and so is not the same man.
The memorial I created is for Henry C Jacobs, Jr born Oct 4, 1944 and died in Mar 1985.
Thank you for all you do for Find A Grave.
