Daniel Beavers - Dorothea Dix Cemtery
Over the years, due to lack of funding in the maintenenance dept, the cemetery was severely neglected. Many of the graves were unmarked. With the passage of time, many graves had deteriorated significantly so that the graves had collapsed leaving depressions in the soil. Boundaries were difficult to identify. Until 1991 the only grave sites with tombstones were those of people whose families had the means and desire to have a marker built. In 1991 a group of volunteers under the leadership of Dave Davis of Physical Dix cemetery graphicPlant and Faye McArthur of Community Relations Department began the task of restoring the cemetery. Volunteers researched the State Archives and the Medical Records Department to identify the graves. Over 700 of the 950 graves were identified. New markers were installed with the name of the patient and the date of death. Graves that could not be identified, do not have a marker.

Daniel Beavers
Hi Carole,
My friend and I have been trying to locate Mr Beavers for you. He is not listed on the records we received from NC historical archives as being buried at Dorothea Dix. It could be that he is among the many who were "unknown" and buried there. But we were hoping that maybe because of his time served as a soldier that he may have been buried in a Confederate graveyard somewhere around Raleigh; do you think this may be the case?
Thank you,
Carole and Anya

RE: Wheeler
You're most welcome. There was one I didn't get but the church was not open. I plan to go and find out where the last one is and will photograph and upload for you.

Take care

Lizzie Wheeler Watkins Photo Request
Hi Carol,

I was able to find, photograph and upload picture of the sites for Bertha Wheeler Godfrey, William V. Wheeler, and Hilliard Wheeler, but did not find Lizzie Wheeler Watkins.

I will go back to the church this week, hoping they have a survey of the interrments in the church cemetery.

Take care,

Happy to help!

I took as many Weirich's as I could, and updated/added their pics.
