RE: Squires
Sorry for the slow response in answering your message due to (bad days) relating from brain surgery. In your message to me you stated that Harold Elias Squires, 05/09/14 - 07/08/01 was your maternal grandfather. Could you clarify 05/09/??01 and 07/08/??01 with full year? At this point and time I am not sure if he is in my tree as I need more information on him. Do you have a cemetery location on him? Sure hope that we are related!

Tabitha Brown
I am a direct descendant of Tabitha Brown and Drury Alsup through their son, James Sidney Alsup/Gorman.

Tabitha was a brick wall in my research and I was excited to learn that she was Cherokee. However....after researching for months, she is still a brick wall. I have not been able to find any evidence of her being the daughter of Chief Drowning Bear. He wasn't married until 1790.
This info comes from several websites including this one and includes a list of his children:

Tabitha was born in Mecklenburg, VA in 1785. I finally had a "duh" moment and looked up Browns who may have lived in Mecklenburg, VA at that time. There were quite a few. One theory I have been entertaining is that the Alsups started on their move to TN from Hanover, VA and Drury met her in Mecklenburg. She went along with them and they got married in Nashville, TN on January 27, 1806. Or, more likely, her family packed up and moved with the Alsups and several other families. That happened quite a bit…families traveling together for protection.

If you have evidence (with dates that line up) that Tabitha was actually descended from Yonaguska or any other Cherokee, please let me know.

RE: Drury Alsup.
Hi, Kim, Glad to hear from you. Sorry if this took me forever to get to. Life being what it is, its difficult for me to find time just to sit and look at family.

Tabitha is my 4th Great grandmother, and she is the daughter of Chief Yonagusta Drowing Bear, who was the son of Chief Dragging Canoe. (Our 5th and 6th Great grandfathers). I NEVER though I had Native American blood (such as it is, watered down). I'm looking into the Cherokee side, and trying to find tribal records that would confirm this.)

Which side of the Alsup family are you? For me, lets see:

Drowing Bear
Tabitha Brown (Drury Alsup)
James P. Gorman (aka James Sidney Aslup)
Drury Sidney Gorman
Margaret Sidney Gorman (marr Richard Flahive)
Henry Lloyd Flahive
Marjorie Elizabeth Flahive (marr. Carl N. Vonbuskirk)

Which is actually not true, cuz Carl VonBuskirk legally adopted me, my birth name was Mongeon, but thats a whole nother story...).

Its always good the find cousins! Hope this helps somewhat..

RE: Nichols Family in Walter's Chapel Cemetery
Out of curiosity can you please tell me where she is buried? I got to searching last night, because I love a good puzzle and found all kinds of information except for her burial!

RE: Nichols Family in Walter's Chapel Cemetery
Are you sure that Arkadelphia is buried at Walter's Chapel? There is not a stone there with her name on it or any of her surnames. However there are A LOT of unmarked graves at this cemetery, and other than transcriptions done in 1995 and then ours done in 2010 there are not any records. If you are sure that she is buried there, I will try to talk to some of the "old-timers" in the area and see if they happen to know where she is buried in the cemetery.
