I started doing research and genealogy for my dad, to help find the lost buddies of our U.S. Marines from the Korean and Vietnam eras. To bring together veterans that served together, and to feel the relationship they have for each other, is one of THE most humbling, yet fulfilling things I have ever done. This branched out to volunteering for different organizations, and to the non-profit Missing In America Project. At MIAP we visit funeral homes and coordinate with them to inventory the unclaimed cremains, and then we research those people to find out if they happen to be veterans. If so, we make sure that these veterans are given the very least they deserve and often it is very overdue. There are many reasons that cremains may be unclaimed, but we focus on making sure they are given the honors they deserve. Both types of work I mentioned often bring me to cemetery sites, such as this one, to be able to confirm or deny that the person we are trying to identify is accurate, and is living or deceased. The history and accomplishments, not to mention the sacrifices of those that have gone before us fascinates me. So, that's the mini version about me lol.
