Bailey's
Me and Bobby Hughs were out there a couple hours yesterday,This cemetery has degraded so bad so fast,It could be destroyed, caved in,or just burried in grass. The stones are mostly unreadable anymore? The lawn mower guy's are completly distroying this place,Huge heavy stones are being knocked over and run over and they couldnt care less.It is very disturbing to watch a peace of history be destroyed.

George Bailey
I was at Portlock Cemetery today and didn't see this headstone, there were *SO* many and I had no map or anything so I feel pretty confident that I just missed it somewhere. I found in the Library of Virginia archives what George Bailey's headstone inscription is though. Just in case you don't already have it, It's located here:

http://files.usgwarchives.net/va/portsmouth/cemeteries/oakgrove01.txt

the inscription is:
In Memory of
George A. Bailey
Died June 17, 1858
Aged 56 years
Father you have left us. We thy loss greatly feel but ‘twas God that has bereft
us, He can all our sorrows heal.

If I get back out there to Portsmouth sometime I will try again for the headstone. :)
