As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, family history has been very important to me all my life. I wrote my first life history when I was 12! |
When I was a kid, our church had a project of canvassing cemeteries. It would be a Sunday afternoon project, one reading off the information and the other writing it and reading it back. Mom knew some of the old hidden away graveyards, and we went to them. After I married, I took her with me again, and, in the days before MapQuest, I drew maps to the graveyards!
My father and mother was working on genealogy in 1940s and 1950s. Mom would drive the old blue truck around Perry, Madison and St. Francois Counties in Missouri. She loved learning about family and would say that she felt like she "knew" these people. Her initial notes were from the 1930s. She also filled seven notebooks with written histories of the branches of the family as she remembered them.
Now that is about her, but it is the heritage she left to me. I typed the stories and continued with research which she and Daddy started. During my work, I have tried "to make a correct record." I hope to succeed in that in some degree by documentation of information I find. Please let me know where you find that I'm wrong. Thanks.
I love and appreciate what the computer has added to this search and documentation work called genealogy!

Thank you so much for help and pictures of my great grandpa and family. Matthew & Elizabeth Small
I am guessing that she did indeed mean Dock, as he was called as an adult. As a child they called him RD or Artie, as some census takers believed it to be. I can find no record or family recollection of what the R stood for. His daughter-in-law (still living at 97) says they never knew either. As far as she knew Dock was his only name. So I'm guessing Artie and Arches may mean the same person. That's all their children. Thanks for sharing an interesting bit of the letter...loved it!

Jen - Jen The sad thing with the little guys headstone is it is only a temp. marker waiting for a headstone. It is not in good shape but it is a 100 years old. Have a great day, Jen

Hi, The reason I set up the memorial with the last name as Twitchell is if anyone was looking for the last name of Twitchell the memorial would pull up. If I post it under Baby, that would be the last name. In the city recorder it is under Wallace Twitchell. Thanks for your interest, Jen
