Well, that would make Ira Goodwin and Elnora Blanch 2nd not 1st cousins! :-) That said, I'm still curious why the two brothers, Tuttle and Delancy, share a common name. Delancy? Surely Delancy Rand was always called Delancy. I'd even be comfortable with Tuttle D. Graham, but am a bit concerned, that given their proximity (4 years) in age, perhaps at some point the two were "crossed", and therefore the "D" may have been incorrectly listed as a middle name of Delancy, for Tuttle.... In a few "trees" I have seen, when there is a Tuttle Delancy listed, there is no Delancy Rand listed, and vice versa. The ONLY times I've noted identical names in the same family have been in Catholic families, where, for instance, all the boys have Joseph for a middle name, and all the girls have Marie or Mary. In SOME cases, identical first names, where the first-born of that name was not expected to live, and a younger of the same gender was born and given the same given name. Only to see the ailing child live to adulthood as well as the second-born of that same name. The second-born was called by his middle name, for the most part, except on official records, but then, always listed with both given and middle name to separate him from his brother.
So, just curious if Tuttle's middle name is found on any official record, and if so, if you've ever come across and explanation of both these brothers having the name Delancy?
|Jared Handspicker||Tuttle D. Graham|
Interesting that you should list his middle name as Delancy. His brother, b. 26-Sep-1860, at Delancy H. Graham. Delancy married Flora Etta (or Floretta Hutchins). They had a daughter, Elnora Blanch Graham, who married Ira Goodwin Graham, likely a cousin, but I've not yet figured out how. Tuttle and Delancy are children of David and Caroline, while Ira is a grandson of James and Jane. All are found in Centreville, eventually, but not sure if/how David and James might be related.
Thank you for adding the headstone picture for Ira and Elnora Graham. I have been doing a fair amount of Graham research. Are you a descendant.
