I was born to Arthur V. Smith and Mary (Carson) Smith. I grew up near Melcher, Iowa - not far from where one of my first ancestors moved to this area (Eli Smith). I am interested in finding other relatives and enjoy the search.|

Hi: I am working on a summary of pension records of Civil War soldiers from Fulton Co., IL for free viewing at www.illinoisancestors.org/fulton. I viewed Shockley's pension file last weekend and can let you know when his township summary will be online (pretty soon). Do you happen to have an obit or photo of him or his children I could use for this project? Janet Turnbull

Thanks for info, will add to the tree!

Thanks for your message. I appreciate the info about your family. I have found several versions of John Brownfield's middle name. You have B., it is A. in 1870 census and I found Ewing in some family trees on ancestry.com. I have him married to Mary G. Burt with four children: Floyd, Beatrice, Merle & Ruth. Have no dates or places for births or deaths of the children.
I did have Ruth married to Francis Carson but not about children. I will check census records to see if there are more children and hopefully some dates
In 1850 Henry, Lydia and children (at least 10 total) are living with his father James in Fayette co. Pa, and his occupation then and in 1860 is listed as farmer. But his occupation in 1870 and 1880 is listed as physician in Marion co. Iowa.
I have that Henry Brownfield married a Margaret McClain on 1 Dec 1881 in Chariton Iowa. Henry died 6 months later on 14 June 1882. This is from ancestry.com family tree Russell/Rosenberg-Newman/Dodson Family Roots. Hope this helps and I would appreciate any other information you have about the rest of the family.

I live in Tracy, Mahaska Co. Iowa now but was originally from Ohio (and Indiana), and my father was born in Pennsylvania.
Henry Brownfield is my 3rd great grandfather, his daughter Amanda Jane Brownfield was married to William Ross Anderson. Their daughter Anna Belle Anderson was married to Cameron Cyrus Sturgis. Their daughter Edna Layola Sturgis was married to Oscar Melvin Harris and their son William Cameron Harris was my father.
I just learned of the Brownfields last year and was shocked and thrilled to find them in Iowa. It is especially nice to find their graves in Newbern cemetery as many of my husbands relatives are buried there also. Some of his ancestors were the original settlers of Whitebreast, Warren Co. and Lacona.

I assume you're referring to Richard Foster. He was also my 3rd great grandfather. I'm descended from his son Manuel. I'm afraid I don't have a photo of his wife Nancy Shreeve.
More info at http://home.comcast.net/~eleom/genealogy/Foster_Photos/index.htm including an image of Elvira.
