This is the obituary of Mrs. Desmond Dawson Hale in Andrew Chapel UM Church
Mrs. Desmond Dawson Hale, 87, of Montross, widow of R. Howard Hale, died June 13, 1998. Mrs. Hale was a member of Andrew Chapel United Methodist Church. Survivors are two daughters and their husbands, Virginia Mae and Melvin Sivils of Norfolk and Jean H. and Carroll Gilbert of Richmond. seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services were June 15, with Rev. Ron Jones officiating. Interment was in Andrew Chapel UM Church. Pallbearers were Elwood Sanford, Stanley Schoppe, Donald Hall, Wallace McGinness, Tom Pitts and George King.

A Novel Elopement. Aug. 28, 1887
On Sunday, the 28th ultimo, Miss Nita Porter, daughter of Prof. E. F. Porter, of Montross, Westmoreland County, left home for King George County, ostensibly to visit a friend. On Thursday following Mr. E. C. Harrington, of the same place, started for King George about 12 o'clock at night and reached the place where Miss Porter was visiting about 4 o'clock Friday Morning. Thence they immediately went together to a near wharf on the Potomac and took a steamer for Washington, reaching there in time to go over to Baltimore on Friday evening, where they were married at the house of a friend. They left Baltimore for home on Monday morning and reached Montross Monday Night.

Mrs. Nellie Blanche Clarke, 83, of Fredericksburg, passed away Jan. 27, 2010 at Dog Wood Village of Orange, Va. She was a piano teacher, and music was a great love of her life. She taught many years at her studio in Fredericksburg and also taught part-time at Germanna Community College. She was survivied by a brother, Otis M. Clarke of Birmingham, Ala., nephews, Clarke Crutchfield of Troy, Va., and Kendall Clarke of Mobile, Ala; nieces Catherine Russo of Scottsville, Elizabeth Crutchfield of Stratford Harbor, Margaret C. Norris of Kinsale and Carolyn Clark Jackson of Birmingham, Ala; She was also preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Alice Crutchfield.
Services were held Feb. 2, 2010 at Montross Chapel of the Welch Funeral Home, and interment was in Andrew Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery in Westmoreland County, Va.
