I have been interested in genealogy for many years. I am most familiar with the Holmes County, MS area; however, I will travel just about anywhere on a research trip. I love walking the cemeteries and photographing them. Findagrave has been a great help during my continuing search for family. I hope my contributions have helped others. I am always willing to make corrections. Please use the EDIT and the Suggest Corrections tabs to ensure I make corrections to the right individual. If you would like for me to transfer a page to you, please let me know. Use the Edit and Suggest Corrections tabs since that will provide both a link to the page and a link to your contributor page with the necessary ID# for the transfer. Please feel free to use my pictures for your genealogical research.

Mary Levis Hutchings Boyce
Good Morning Kim,

Over my coffee this morning, I have searched in Family Search for 1940 Census in Dallas County, Texas; I found it! Mary L. was born in Texas according to the digital copy of the original record.
Cleveland and Mary L. are shown as living in Justice Precinct #4 in an unincorporated place known as Urbandale. They are listed on sheet 19A line number 33 and 34. There are no children listed at their residence. Cleve is shown as working for an insurance company and Mary as not working.
This Census was taken on April 18, 1940. It is interesting to note that Mary's age is listed as 38. That should mean that her birthday fell somewhere between January 1 and April 18, 1902 which matches the year of birth on her headstone.

I searched a bit for a death record for Mary L. Boyce but have not located one yet. Interestingly, there are two death records listed in Family Search for Cleveland Boyce, birth dates and death date match, but one shows him as married and the other shows him as single.

I'll let you know if find any other info and would appreciate it if you would do the same.

Have a good Sunday,
Charlotte

Mary Levis Hutchings Boyce
Hello Kim,
I found the printed papers I've been hunting. On the marriage application it appears the person wrote Mrs. Mary L. Hutchings, but it not as clearly written as it is on the marriage record document which appears at bottom of the page. That is the reason I thought Mary must have been a widow at the time she married Cleve Boyce. Levis does not appear on the marriage record; I got that from her headstone beside Cleveland. I'm not sure Mary is buried by Cleve because no death year has been carved on the stone. If you would like to look at the record, you should be able to view it at the website of The Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Search for www.familysearch.org/search/collection/list. You will need to know it was Bryan County, Oklahoma in 1936 under Cleveland Boyce. I just viewed the record a few minutes ago without any trouble.
There is nothing on the marriage record that states where Mary was born nor any other information that gives a me a clue, but they both lived in Dallas, Texas according to their record information. One has to wonder why they married in Oklahoma unless it was because family could be there. Family Search is a great place to search for Census records - maybe under Levis in Oklahoma or Texas you can find Mary or maybe under Cleveland Boyce in Dallas, Texas in 1940. The 1940 Census asked for the State of Birth.
Hope this helps to point you in the right direction to discover Mary's parents. If you find any info, I would appreciate knowing.

Have great evening,
Charlotte

RE: C W Boyce
Kim,
I have gone through one large container of documents, but I have not yet found the printed information for Mary Levis. I will continue this week to search a second large container of printed material. Give me until the beginning on next week to search, please. I'll let you what I find. Contact me if I forget, but I don't think I will forget since I have a new interest in knowing more about Mary.

RE: Glenwood
Sorry am so late replying to your message. I am taking pictures on the top of the hill at Glenwood and only have one section left. I know I will not be able to photograph the entire cemetery. If you wish, why not start in the older part. I go at lunch and just walk row after row taking pictures. When I download them, I check to see if the grave I took is already on Find a Grave or if I need to add it. I have made duplicates and am happy to delete them if I find them or they are brought to my attention. I work in Yazoo City just down the road from Glenwood but I am not from Yazoo. It would be great to have them all photographed. Most big cemeteries are not fully documented. This is the only big one I have tried. I know everyone would thank you for helping to document this beautiful cemetery with all of it's interesting stones.

RE: C W Boyce
Kim,
It's nice hear from someone interested in Mary Levis. I discovered their marriage in searching for Cleve Boyce (my relative). Somewhere in my boxes of research records there is a printed copy of the marriage record. If you will bear with me until the holidays are over, I will be happy to find the copy and give you any additional that I may find; however, I do not believe that Mary's parents are listed on the application. Perhaps, there is other information that will provide a clue, i.e. birthplace. I do believe that Mary's Maiden Name was Levis, not Hutchings, and that she was widowed or divorced at the time of her marriage to Cleve Boyce. Remind me, please, lest I forget to follow-up on your request. You should from me by the first week in January.
Have a safe holiday.

Glenwood
I see you are taking pictures at Glenwood. I am also. I have been up on the hill in the blocks in front of the mausoleum. I have done D and C and will be starting on B, then I will try left and right of those. Just thought I would let you know so we don't both take pictures of same ones. I love this old cemetery. Played in it as a young child as my cousin lived on College Street and we would sneak up there sometimes. If you need to me change direction let me know.
