Bio Photo I live in Gladstone,MO with my husband Jerry. I work part time for a periodontist and my husband is retired from TWA/American Airlines. We have two children and eight grandchildren. We just recently began researching our family trees and are thrilled with what we have already learned. We are also amazed at all the resources and wonderful people that have helped us.

BlackBearded john & Mary
Just for the record, those photos were provided by our cousin Ted Veal Parrett in Kansas.

Smoking Johnny
Susan, I needed to notify you that I have studied the photo of 'Smoking Johnny' and I feel the lady in the photo is the wife of Black-bearded John. I have moved the photo to that location in my tree. Take a close look please, let me know if you agree.

I am a Find A Grave volunteer like you are.
Sadly, there is absolutely NO cooperation from the San Luis Cemetery with Find A Grave volunteers. I was threatened with the police by the owner of the SL Cemetery, just talking to him over the phone. However, there has been great success with the San Luis Obispo County Genealogical Society. Their database reflects that he is in that cemetery and they likely have a photo of him; and the same is true of another Archie V. Cline, b. 1913

You can request a photo of who you are looking for by doing the following and they will respond promptly:
Address your email to
Put in the subject line San Luis Cemetery Headstone photo
Give them the name and birth and death dates, or as much as you know. Ask them to send a picture of the headstone, and tell them how you are related or what your interest is in this person. They will appreciate that. This information may only be used in genealogical research.
They will send you the photo as an attachment to email. They took photos of the thousands of headstones they indexed in 2009 and 2010. They photographed virtually all headstones that could be deciphered. Everyone, who was buried there before 2009-2010, and who has a headstone, has a picture of their headstone in the database of the Genealogical Society. The society will respond to individuals, but prefers not to send pictures in bulk to Find A Grave volunteers. They also have not made an agreement to download their data to the Find A Grave servers.
I will ask that the request be removed, now that you have a very reliable and quick way to achieve your goal. If there is any problem, please let me know.
As a reference here is the website for the index. I have checked the index myself and found that a headstone exists for this person.
Best wishes.

Susan, you're so welcome! I'll keep looking the next time I'm there and if I ever run across him, I'll be sure to get a picture for you. Merry Christmas to you and your family!

John Parrott
I hate to admit this, (I got that photo from Ted Veal in Shawnee Ks.) but if you look closely at the photo of John Blackbearded, Smoking Johnny's son, I think the lady in that photo looks very much like John Blackbearded's wife.
Look closely and give me your opinion. That is supposed to be Smoking Johnny's cabin if I remember correctly though.
I will try to find the papers Ted sent and review.

Gennett Parrott
Ms. Ingels: By the time you get this message, the pages for both John and Alice Parrott will be up on Find A Grave. There is however, some sad news about the Gennette (Gennittie B. according to the Inscriptions Book with the right dates) tombstone. Where she is buried only a piece of the stone remains in the cement of the footer. The top part is gone. We searched for the missing part but we were not successful. Sorry. We are certain that this is all that remains. Further, the stones on the north and south of her are legible and are the correct names - again according to the Inscription Book. I have taken pictures of the site of the missing stone and all three of the stones involved, Please let me know if you wish to have me upload the site of the missing stone, all three of the stones, both pictures or not at all and instead put up a problem about its site?
