Two brothers were orphaned in Georgia as infants and adopted out. When grown they got back together, both married and then they came by wagon train to Crystal River, FL. One brother stayed in this area with his family and the other moved further South to Largo and then later to Lithia (Welcome) Fl. I have been tracking the family history for a number of years now and have unearthed quite a bit of information. It is fascinating some of the things you find in old letters and census records.
There was a lot of infant deaths as well as adults that occurred in the Crystal River area. Some of the family had claimed and settled on islands located just off the coast. It was thought that they got sick because the fresh water and salt water met near their home. What they didn't know was it was the mosquitoes. (Malaria was the culprit). Other families lived inland and later moved further inland towards Inverness and Floral City. I have tracked family members all over the state of Florida and the United States.
I can't find any information beyond the two orphaned brothers. I did get some information from a distant relative I found online that it was reported that the Mother and Father of the two boys were killed in a fire when the youngest brother was an infant. I was also told by an older distant cousin before she passed away at the age of 98 that she thought she remembered talk of three brothers coming over from England. One stayed North, one moved West and one moved South. It appears our family comes from the brother that moved and settled in the South. All records were burned during the Civil War.

|Laura Lealman Bruckner||Lurana Lealman Allen|
Hi Cathy, my name is Laura Lealman Bruckner; my father is Roy Earle Lealman, Jr.; his father was Roy Earle Lealman, Sr.; and his father was Elza Beasley Lealman, Jr. It appears your grandmother and my great-grandfather were brother and sister. My father Roy Jr. was born in 1926, so probably didn't remember his great-aunt, and if I ever heard about her, I don't remember. Elza Jr. passed when I was 3 or 4 years old.
I do remember meeting Lealman Allen. I don't remember how old I was,( I was born in 1959 so would assume it had to be late 60s or early 70s) but the whole family (my father Roy Jr., mother Martha Sockwell Lealman, sister Becky Lealman (now)Dotson, brother Roy E. Lealman III, and brother Paul Stewart Lealman; once traveled aways down a dirt road to go to Lealman's house. I only remember it being strange to meet a relative whose first name was my last name!
I am interested to know if you have any more information about Elza Sr. I am finding it hard to navigate between him and Elza Jr. I have traced back to Elener as the spouse (and I assume Lurana's mother) and father Thomas, and I believe somewhere I found Thomas' spouse was Sarah? I have fortunately found ample information of Elza Jr.'s first spouse (and my direct blood line) Minnie Archer. Seems I always knew I was a 5th generation native Floridian, but now am an 8th generation native by virtue of Minnie! Her father William Augustus Archer was son of Captain Augustus Azanok Archer who was born in Key West, FL in 1829. His parents Benjamin Vincent and Charlotte Pyfrom Archer don't show as moving from the Bahamas to Key West until 1839, but they were sailors so may have been there ten years earlier for him to be born there.
I happen to be going there June 1, as I do every year (perhaps now I know what calls me there each year), so hope to investigate this further.
Do you realize on Ancestry.com that Lurana isn't listed as a child of Elza Sr.? I do notice a gap of four years between children where her birth year fits, and combined with the obituary provided by you, she is obviously a child of his, but I already count ten children without her, so not sure about the discrepancy. Yet another mystery to solve!

|Kim Lewis||RE: Albert Tillman Meeks|
In researching Albert, the 1900 fed census shows he was raised by his Aunt Lottie born May 1867. When I found the 1870 federal census, it shows Lotty as being born in 1854. Is this the Jacob and Eliza that you found?

Thanks Cathy!!! I am so appreciative. My fear was that his Aunt Lottie was related through Albert's mother, now I can research each male sibling and try to find a connection. Do you have any dates of birth/death?
